911 SC CIS Intake Runner Gasket Removal
Hi Guys,
I hope you are all doing well. I wanted to the pick the brains trust on gasket removal. I have my intake runners out and I'm replacing the injectors, seats, o-rings and gaskets. The old ones are baked on pretty well. What's the best way to remove? CRC or Permatex gasket removal spray and a plastic scraper? I know that I would *not* use a metal scraper on an aluminum engine. Hey G. I'm doing the same job. How did you remove the injector seats without breaking them?

I don't seem to remember having much trouble. Maybe you could get a razor blade under a lip and gently pry up? Beyond that I'm not sure. graham, What I did was to remove the injector and then I inseted a long bolt with a washer through from the inside and used a drift to tap the injector sleeves out.

Well, you're not going to get them off with a plastic tool. A small, sharp wood chisel works wonders, as well as a pocket knife.

Cool thanks Guys will try the blade method. I was really worried a hard metal blade would gouge the aluminum. I'll try to pry them up - hopefully they will come off in one go.
Graham, like tirwin said I removed the runners on the drivers side, pulled the injector by just gently prying it out with screwdriver (came out very easy). Two of the runners I just pushed the seats out with my fingers they were so loose. One other one I used an appropriately sized socket as a drift and tapped them out from the back with a soft mallet. Didn't take much at all. Now the pass side my seats don't seem to be loose at all so the plan was to just pull the injectors and replace the o-rings with the runners in place. I think you can *probably* pull the number 4 runner with the motor in place. 5 & 6 looks pretty much impossible to me without an engine drop or total CIS removal. I've been working on this for 2 weekends now. I could probably have dropped the motor 3 times ![]() I've also read using a thin tap or easy out works but there is always the danger that those brittle seats are going to disintegrate and fall into the intake. I've noticed that a few metal shavings come from the threads on the studs when you pull the runner so be careful that none of that makes it way into the intake. I probably should have covered the threads with some masking take before i pulled the runner. I plan to suck the intakes out with a shop vac to be sure before I put it all back together. Just wanted to clarify that I took my intake runners off the motor first before trying to get the injector sleeves out. My sleeves were so brittle that they would've crumbled into the intake if I had tried to take them out with the runners still on.

Yes one of mine was *very* brittle. It fell apart when I started to push it out with just my fingers.

About the intake gaskets ... the cheap ones e.g. victor reins are apparently made of paper, the pricey Porsche versions metal and paper.
Does it make a difference ? Most folks just go with the former it seems. And to not hijack the thread completely, would applying the proper sealant help with the removal later on ? Last edited by pmax; 02-03-2018 at 04:10 PM.. |

I used the victor reins ones. I didn't realize that they are actually inferior but compared to the ones on the car they seemed about the same quality. It's been a couple of years since this thread and no issues so far. I didn't add any sealant.

Thanks, I will order the Victor Reinz ones then.
Will also use some Permatex Ultra Copper sealant as recommended in many threads, I think it can only help. Sealant on 3.2 intake manifold gaskets?? |
