Oil Pump Pickup Tube Epoxy ?

Through the course of my rebuild I noticed that the pick-up tube of my oil pump was loose. I removed the tube, and cleaned out the old, cracking epoxy.

In my search for something to reset it, (JB Weld, Permatex multi-metal epoxy etc.) the highest advertised temperature these products can withstand is 300 deg. F .

My local wrench says that I want something that can do at least 400 deg. F. Does anyone know what I can use to reset the pickup tube ?
Thanks,
Dave

Pshaw... JB Weld can fix ANYTHING! Honestly though, there's got to be a product out there, but 400 degrees?

If your oil is 400 degrees, you definitely have bigger problems.

Web FAQ
"Up to what temperature can Marine-Tex be used?

Depends on pressure and conditions, up to 250°F constant temperature, spikes up to 300-325°F in dry environments."

I ran into the same problem, having pulled the oil pickup tube out of the crankcase for cleaning (oops). I looked up the P50 tool that Porsche used to install the tube in the first place and after some head-scratching came up with a home-made equivalent. The components are:

A 2-inch-long, quarter-inch brass pipe nipple
A quarter-to-half-inch pipe adapter
Three ball bearings from a quick-release air fitting (or drop by a bike store)
A long, tapered scratch awl.

I drilled three holes in the nipple at 120 degree intervals to hold the bearings and let them move in and out, slid the tip of the awl in between the bearings, and slid the assembly inside the oil tube. The adapter made a decent handle. When I pushed the awl in deeper among the bearings, it forced the bearings outward against the walls of the pickup tube and pressed them into the block. I withdrew the awl partway, rotated the tube, and did it again. The pickup tube is now nicely secured within its hole.

You might need a different size pipe nipple depending on the inside diameter of your pickup tube.
