911 alt install
Hi , hoping someone here can help
I have a type4 with a 911 style cooling setup my alt is an early 11 blade, I know my electronics and electrical, however I've never hooked up an alternator from scratch (ie no wires are existing right now) Just wondering if anyone can give me a hand with the outputs from the alt and where they ought to be wired to. thanks |
Vio,
You need to determine whether your 4-wire alternator is Bosch or Marchal/Motorola ... and get a regulator of the same brand, say for a '75 model. Four wires connect to alternator (all but Red go to regulator) ... Red 12 ga, Brown 12 ga, Black 18 ga, & Blue 20 ga ... are needed to connect alternator and regulator ... per the following diagram. Same connections and color code regardless of brand. http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911_..._CIS_Part2.jpg |
thanks, its a bosch alt

hate toseem stupid but where on this diagram is the alt?
|
Alternator is the circled #3 device, and the regulator is the circled #4 device at bottom, left quadrant.
|
I'm assuming that red will connect direcly to the battery or starter (starter is thebn connected direcly to the battery.)

thanks for all the help

I bought a regulator, there are three places for wire to go but nothing is marked. any idea how I determine which wire goes where?

I've reinstalled the shroud and have been playing with the carbs to see how the linkage will work, and apparenlty I can make everything clear, the spray paint I used is a slightly darker color, its realy not that noticeable, but for some reason with the digital camera it sticks out like a sore thumb
I also installed the oil cooler, thought it would look cool mounted in the engine bay with dula fans rather than above the tranny, it is spaced out from the forewall so the air can flow, despite how it looks. http://members.shaw.ca/dzopoula/IMG_0282.JPG |
Where does the hot air from oil cooler go? Is there ducting to take it underneath the car and out of the engine compartment? Clean looking installation. Cheers, Jim

For the summer I will run with the decklid off, during the winter it will be parked. besides the 911 colling setup cools a little too well for the type 4

Is the body from a 56 or a 57?
Nice looking installation! Tim |
