Clutch cable issue

I did a complete strip down paint job and recently reinstalled the engine and transmission. I noticed that the clutch pedal was hanging a bit low so looked underneath and as the cable goes into the firewall and noticed that the cable is "loose" at the firewall. Does the cable sheath screw into the firewall, pressed in or??

Thanks in advance

The cable sheath (male) fits in a female spot on the firewall.
It is held there by the tension of the cable.

The beldin needs to be seated tight to the firewall. I usually use a long screwdriver and hammer to seat the fitting tight

You can pry against the trans mount with a long beefy screwdriver to seat the cable sleeve all the way onto the tunnel tube

don't need to drop the tranny, make sure the area is clean (mine was not) so it can go in nicely.
Otherwise you will have two symptoms: the clutch feel will get looser over time as it sits in slowly (due to the debris) or you might have sudden "sit in position) and your clutch pedal will drop significantly.
