A pleasant coincidence...yearly adventure trip.
It's time again to plan our yearly trip with my 87 Carrera. This year it is Toronto to beautiful Nova Scotia (approx. 2500 miles). I started to chart the best roads to Nova Scotia and the fantastic drives and B&B locations the province has to offer...
While doing all that, I happen to read the on line January PCA magazine. I came across an article containing pictures, a video and maps detailing a trip taken by RICHARD VIARD, a PCA member from Boston to Nova Scotia. The article helped tremendously in my planning and warm thanks RICHARD... My car is in excellent condition but as owners of older Porsches know, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN along a long drive... If you (Nova Scotians and others) know of Porsche garages in that province that I would attend to in need, I would appreciate your suggestions. Thanks! |

I'm envious of your trip. to get more visibility on the board add Toronto and Nova S to the title of your thread maybe followed by seeking route info. Also know that the the two wheeled guys ,BMW,HD ,Honda guys have loads of info on this and other routes. Does the Quebec GP fall in your time frame ,if so ... GO !!you might want to take in Heart Island in the 100000 isl region and the Eisenhower Lock on the us side of the St Lawrence ,if your interested ENjoy

I live here. Don't really know of any old school Porsche garages. If you run into problems in the area give me a shout, I'll see what I can do.
Couple years ago I did the drive to Ottawa and back in my 88. On the way out was one side of the St Lawrence on the way back it was the other. I think I stayed off the main highway as well. I hear very good things about driving the Cabot trail in Cape Breton but I've never done it. Check it out. |

Sounds like a great road trip. You may by-past Saint John NB as it's a bit longer to get to NS, but if you are having problems and aren't too far from Saint John you could do a lot worst than to connect with Alpine Motors.
The owner is ex 911 owner and they service all of the German cars in this area, including a number of newer 911's. They would be worth at least a phone call. Once in NS, if you have time, the Cabot Trail is definitely interesting but in my opinion you must arrange your routing so that you travel along the Gaspe Pennisula. Clockwise on your way to NS or counter-clockwise on your way home. I would recommend counter-clockwise as you would be against the water at all times. The Bay of Chaleur in the beginning and the Gulf of St Lawrence at the end. You will be travelling thru a lot of interesting French (Quebecois) villages and occasionally be on some interesting stretches of highway. Spend the night in the town of Gaspe and leave early next morning for Murdochville where you will have an uninhabited highway all to yourself. In a lot of ways superior to the Cabot Trail. Don't be afraid to pm if you need assistance. |

Amazing trip you're planning for sure...my Grandfather was born in Prospect, NS and as an orphan at 14, he survived the Halifax explosion of 1917. Most of the family has been back there but my turn is coming, enjoy the history of NS! I'd love to drive across Canada tip to tip someday, particularly in the 911. Cheers.

David,
Roads in NS were made for classic 911's ! South Shore from Halifax along the Lighthouse Route, Cabot Trail in Cape Breton, surfing beaches along the Eastern Shore, winery tours in the Annapolis Valley - you can't make a mistake. They are all great ! Couple of good classic 911 repair folks in the province, both in Halifax and the 'Valley. Only issue with the PCA article was the reference to "the island". Sure, the author took a ferry from the US, but he could have driven all the way. NS is tied to the rest of the continent by land. Keep in touch as you finalize dates and routes. Chance to meet up with the local Porsche folks for a drive, etc. Jim '82 930 |
