How do I remove the studs INSIDE the case?

I need to ship my case halves, but thought it would be safer to remove the long studs that are inside the case.

Can these be removed? If so, how... as it seems these are different threads that the studs that I removed on the outside of the case.

If it was me, I would ship the 2 halves mated together. Much less chance of damage :D

Here is the picture of the case... it's mainly the 2 long studs at the left end of this pic. (The other half also has a rather long stud by the oil pump)

I may end up doing that... but it would be difficult to find a box big enough to ship it, as it's very bulky

Pull the exterior studs then I would bolt up with the two that is there and two through bolts toward the #1/#4 end. Like others say, look for a ice chest to pack it in.

Thanks Bruce... I'll see if I can find a fairly cheap ice chest.

Anyone have any recommendations or know of a specific size igloo or chest to use?

I am about to ship my case for my 3.3 turbo restoration to Steve Weiner. will have him split the case and do anything/everything needed and return a reassembled case.

talked to the guy at UPS. they have a foam machine that fills the voids with foam. wrap the case in plastic and foam it up. need to find a good double wall box the right size.

good luck.

I build a box out of plywood when I ship things like this.

I think the guy at UPS is nuts. I don't care if the case is foam-packed (and I know the type of foam he mentions, as i've used the expanding foam) because I don't think a box is adequate protection and the foam is easily penetrated. Trust what the guys are saying and use a cooler or build a box like yelcab1 suggests for your precious case. Guys have had excellent track records using the cooler for both engine cases and transmissions. Yes a transmission can fit in the big cooler!
