HYD clutch issue
I have a1988 911 carrera, stock. I just did an engine drop, while the engine was out I pulled a vacuum on the clutch slave cylinder. Pulled a lot of dirty crap out I might add. Now that the engine is in and all buttoned up. The clutch pedal will not depress and the slave cylinder piston is extended all the way. Makes a hell of a noise. I tried opening the bleed valve thinking that the piston might release, no luck.
I can't see doing a bleed as the pedal will not depress. Any ideas what to do next?

Did you seperate the motor from gear box and if so could the fork be hung up?

.I did seperate them to install a new clutch and TOB.
Looking back I think pulling a vacuum was like depressing the clutch pedal with the engine out.

It sounds like you didn’t seat the pin into the recess of the fork.
I suggest you buy a new unit because I haven’t been able to successfully reinstall the pin. It’s imperative to seat the pin as you tighten the slave to the trans. Bruce |

What pin is it that you speak of? I do not recall a pin.

![]() ![]() If you recall when you separated the transmission from the motor , you had to use a 6mm bolt and a slide hammer to remove the pin from the lever so you could separate the tranny from the motor. to re install , you tape the throwout lever in place with the tangs in behind the clutch throw out bearing and then replace the tranny and insert pin through side of inspection hole and replace holding tab. hope this helps. Dan. |

I remember bleeding the clutch having a final step of bottoming the pedal, then closing the bleed screw, and then having to lift the pedal back up to the normal position. Maybe you need to try that. Open the bleed screw, bottom the pedal, then close the bleed screw, and then lift the pedal. I don't know, I have only bleed the clutch using a pressure bleeder, I didn't know there was another way.
Can you stick a mirror in the inspection port of the transmission to see what the pressure plate/fork are doing or what position they are in? |

Oh that pin. I was thinking something small. This is my about 15th engine drop in this life time. Any way I think I have found the problem. I removed the slave only to discover the fork is not caught or hooked to the TOB. It pivots on the pin. I think that reinstalling the tran it must have become disconnected some way. With the expedition of draining the oil I'm ready to drop the engine again. Tomorrow I will drop it and separate the trans engine and find out for sure what's going on.
