Carrera AFM Arm Ajust (JUST WOW!!)

JUST WOW!!

After many attempts and adjustments of all different types to eliminate irritating flat spots on my 86 Carrera and a more recent back-fire at certain RPM's, I have finally seen the light!!

Again, JUST WOW!! I test drove the car once I re-adjusted the ARM, and from a cold start I could feel the smooth transition throughout the entire RPM's!! And also (at least until now), the back-firing is gone, even the idle is smoother and the car does not "shake and shiver" any more, which bugged me as well.

Thanx to all who have shared their wisdom and knowledge! Now on to the next challenge.

Sounds good. What's "ARM"?
Thanks,
Dave

Wiper arm inside the Carrera 3.2/964 airflow meters.

The wiper can be moved down the shaft by slightly loosening the bolt and gently pushing it down a tad.

This puts the arm in a new "track" of the resistor board.

You shouldn't see a depression in the pathway. A good surface is virtually flat.

Dave,

Take a look at this video for a good understanding of the DME.

I got it. For some reason I didn't understand. I've actually done this on my two 84"s.
Thanks,
Dave

Yeah, I put this off for too long, thinking that it was a more involved job than it is. The hardest part for me was removing the RTV sealant attaching the plastic cover to the AFM. It's certainly nice to be rid of the backfires and bucking at warm-up.

This is the next thing I will tackle in my rough-idling '85.
