coverlay vs. dashtops.com?
Just wondering if there's a difference in quality, etc. Dashtops.com seems to have more colors available--I'd like to get something that comes close to matching the cork interior in my '77 911S
Thanks |
Kris,
I put a coverlay in my car, it looks ok. not great but certainly better than before. The coverlay are paintable. so you could match the color and amount of gloss/matte required. When installing it tells you to put something heavy like phonebooks on it. I found it almost impossible to stop the phonebooks falling off the dash. I used bags of lead shot, worked well. Jeff |
I've looked at dashtops.com too and was also curious as to the quality...

Why don't you spend a few more more bucks and just replace it with an original? You can get a used decent dash for a good price from a Pcar auto wrecker if you shop around. It's not that hard of a job to replace and popping the wind screen is not that big of a deal either.
I've yet to see an overlay that fit well they sort of look like Michael Jackson's Plastic surgery. JMO Jorge (Targa Dude) |

Well, it's plastic, but mine fit great and the color match (midnight blue) was nearly perfect. A few clamps and wedges held it down while the silicon set to hold it---no real problems. All in all, for less than $100 bucks, it's not at all bad.
