1987 Porsche Carrera interior codes
I am trying to understand the CODES on the identfication label on the underside of the bonnet and in the maintenance log.
I have various books, but none of them explain the CODE which comes after the paint code. One book says it is the interior leather/cloth code but these do not tally. Does anyone know what these codes are? examples I have seen are LY, CH, LT and LW |

This is a good question, and one I've also been trying to solve.
As you can see from my sticker, my interior's marked "YY." I have full leather; is that what it signifies? It's fairly easy to figure out options, but these codes are a different matter. I'd also like to find a source to decipher them. ![]()

The code represents two things about the interior. One is the type of interior and the other is the color. The type refers to the combination of cloth vinyl, leather and carpet that was used. Porsche offered an almost endless list of combinations. The other factor is the color which is typically represented by a 3 digit color code. This code is not what you see on the option label. Each combination of type and color was issued a 2 digit code.
The only reference I have seen for these codes is in the materials that a dealer used to order cars. A Porsche dealer parts depatment may be able to decipher them for you. JR PS: I got to thinking about this for a second and remembered that Mark Haab listed some of these in his book The 1974-1989 911, 912E & 930 Porsche/Authenticity Series. For example, in 1986, YY was the code for Burgundy "all leather."

Let me coat-tail to this question...notice the shown label " 911 630".....what does 630 in this case mean?. What if 630 was 340 instead?... on an 85 Carrera?

I don't see an "NK" interior code in the 87-89 PET. Here are the "interior lining" codes:

I have been trying to find the name of the color for my car's interior because I want to renew the carpet kit and get exactly what I have, the ID sticker shows 'QM' as the interior color but I'm having trouble fining a reference chart. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi JR,
My '86 has a code of L908 LX. It is white with a burgundy interior, but I think the seats have been replaced/finished... The only option code is C02 but it has sport seats - power, but no heat on both sides. Any idea what the LX stands for? Thanks so much, Franny

LX was a leatherette interior that had partial leather front seats, in burgundy. Sports seats were optional, so they were probably changed out at some point. It takes all of 10 minutes and I've done it before to an '86 targa I used to own.

Hi JR - Thanks for helping us out on this. Do you happen to know what "LH" stands for? The sticker on my 1989 Cabriolet says "L347 LH" I know the L347 is Dark Blue paint, but what does the "LH" represent for the interior?
Thank you, Will |

LH was a leatherette interior with leather seats, in Cashmere Beige, with Marine Blue trim.

Keeping with the interior code theme, does anyone know what interior code HX means? Its on a 1987 930. From what I can tell its listed as Special Leatherette/Leather in the 87 PCNA Fact Book, but it does not specify what the color type is for the code itself. So its a factory standard interior code option.
It may be a color only offered in 1987 but Im not sure. I did not see it listed for 1986. |

Anyone have any idea? The seats look Champagne, but the carpets blue. But I know for a fact code PE is the Champagne interior.
The available leather interior colors were: Gray-Green, Blue, Champagne, Black, Brown, Plum Red, Linen, Silver Gray, Caramel, Burgundy, Venetian Blue, Mahogany |

Champagne special leather with Leatherette belt line. Marine Blue carpets and roof liner. There were 4 different codes for Champagne interiors in 1987. PE used Champagne carpets and a black roof liner.
