Windshield Install Questions

I’m having some trouble putting a new windshield in. I’m using an OEM seal. The windshield goes in, the seal grabs all around except for the top part. Right in the middle, not enough seal flap go over the frame to hold it in place and it just comes off. In the bottom and sides looks ok. It almost looks like the seal is too short on the top to grab the frame.

I used water and soap on the seal/rope to get it in. Any other tricks that I can use to get the windshield in? I’ve tried a couple of times now with the same result.

Thanks

Do you have the metal trim piece in?

Yes it’s in.

What brand of glass, it looks like the glass may be too short?

PGW Solex. If I'm not mistaken that's the old PPG

Are you getting the lip over the frame when you pull the rope, is the rope all the way under the flap?

At the top, barely gets over the frame and it just pulls out. Yes the rope is all the way in. It almost feels like the windshield has a bigger arch in the middle than the original glass which doesn’t allow the seal flap to seat properly over the frame. Speculating here

This article helped me with the same issue.

EDIT: I spread the metal trim a bit on the areas that the rubber strip wasn't coming through before pulling the rope and helped alot

There is some slop in the seal and the frame, and the metal trim helps put everything where it needs to be. Have you tried pulling the seal upwards in the top center before removing the rope, so more of it can 'grab' the frame?
