Seat Belt Issue

The driver's seat belt keeps getting twisted and hung up in the bracket on the pillar. It will retract if the belt is seated flat in the bracket. However, the angle to pull it just causes it to get bunched up in the forward part. Can someone post a pic or confirm the position of the bracket? I also think I might be missing a cover to hide the screw head.

There is a plastic cover that hides the bolt, but I think it may be NLA depending on the year of your car. I’ve found that you just have to be careful in retracting the belts or they do get jammed. It’s worse in my 914 than my 911, so perhaps the stiffness of aged belts may have something to do with it.

actually its the old belts get soft and curled so I think thats what causes it. You can try freeing up the bracket so that it swivels around easier but maybe its time to get the belts rewebbed they are getting pretty old anyway

Thanks guys! I will order some new covers to be safe, but I bet I have the others in my door pockets. I used to have a bar that mounted to those for the harness and camera mount.

I really had not thought about the belt itself being the issue, but they are original belts from 1989 so they owe me nothing. Time to fix.

I got new belts from a popular online seat belt provider, and new retractors, and they don't retract any better than my old belts - in fact probably a little worse. YMMV.

belts

It looks to me that the anchor bolt is restricting the belt to
swing ,see the pressure on the plastic belt holder is two tight or
being crushed by the washer ,to enable it to swing left and right.
should be small amount of play between the head of bolt and plastic.
