Question on door mirror openings
Hoping to get an answer to my question on door mirror openings holes on the actual door.
I have a 1974 that I'm returning to her factory external appearance but have later doors from an 86 that I will be using. My car had the naked metal style early mirrors whereas the doors I'm using would've originally come with flag mirrors. Are the holes on the door to mount mirrors the same across all the years, or do they vary from year-to-year based on the mirrors that came in their respective model years? Thanks!

Good morning.
To be more specific I am trying to determine if this mirror (which I want to use); https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/91173101410.htm?pn=911-731-014-10-OEM&gclid=Cj0KCQjwkKPVBRDtARIsAA2CG6GPaucHDEPp5FeF9JRy 4CpZRmEaeuFY0X3jOLFTsB9Uc6ZdTvYcICQaAhtlEALw_wcB Will work with factory mirror mounting holes on an SC or later door?

I’m going to say no.
Seems recall tells me the manual mirrors had access holes way forward on the inner skin under the forward curve from the cowl. Bruce |

The answer is no. On the 86 doors you have there will be 3 or more holes (larger hole for wiring to power mirror), all of which will be larger than the size you will need.
You will have to drill some new holes and possible fill in the ones that are there.

Thanks gentlemen, look like I need to order the mirrors I want and then custom fit them.
Appreciate the info.

The information you have received is correct regarding the mirror holes. Additionally, the 74 mirror will mount further forward on the "dog-leg" of the driver's door. If you're going to add a passenger side mirror, the location will be more rearward and higher, much like shown in the picture posted by Isf911, except you will have to fill in the flag mirror holes and re-drill for the two bolts of the 74 mirror.

Wait - The openings are asymmetrical?
From the pictures above the driver side has one larger hole opened still on the top but the passenger side does not. Is that correct?
