Best lips/barrels to make 3 piece wheels from 16x6 Fuchs centers?

I'm looking at making some 17" 3 piece wheels for the wide body car ('72 E with fiberglass Turbo flares).

I've come across a number of sellers of lips and custom lips, and I buy them for wheels I refinish occasionally. However, I'm not sure if there is a style or brand that fits the Fuchs better once it is machined flat.

Any help?

I'm using BBS 20 hole parts for my 3 piece wheel build. Sort of related, but can you recommend someone to machine the 16x6 Fuchs ?

I'm planning on using a local machinist I have used for lots of other things and wants to do this. I'll recommend him after my wheels are done. He's a great guy, but always swamped with work.

Once upon a time the three piece wheel made sense. Have you compared the price of getting a three piece wheel made compared to a new aftermarket or Lindsey two piece wheel in the same size?

Only the BBS Motorsport 20 bolt halves, as used on the mag E50 centers. Not the street wheels. Might be other brands which are dimensionally correct but I'm not aware of any.

I did it, its not worth the time or money. You are limited on offsets by the orriginal centre which are very old (and expensive) these days.

BBS 17" rims work, if i recall the ID of the barrel is 321mm, I can look up the dimensions if you need.

See my link below.

Thanks for the input, guys. Esp the link - know I have seen it just didn't find it in my search. I may end up buying some pre-made 3pc Fuchs, just kinda wanted to do it, because.

I've got 17" 3pc Fuchs on 16" RS centers right now, so I know the sizes and offsets I want, just want to make sure I get the ID of the barrels to fit as well as possible to the flat machined part of the Fuchs, as I know there isn't a lot of 'slop' room there.

Yeah, but their site doesn't mention fitting wide-body cars, even though they have photos of them, and they are $800 each, also starting with a 16x6" fuchs center. No bad, really. Since I got these 16x6's essentially for free (not really, but I'm going to sell some wheels I did get for free to make up for them), I have no problem buying lips and paying a machinist buddy that much to make my own. Plus, then I can say, I made them.

FYI - for BBS rims:

The inner spigot diameter of the rim (the part which is used to centre it to the wheel) is 321mm.
The PCD for the 20 holes is 339mm.

We use Bogart here in Phoenix for racing wheel barrels - Rich has been doing this for a very long time . .

You can provide barrel specifications to Rich and he will build the parts you need -- or
you can discuss options with him and then decide exactly what you want for barrels.
I got his name from some NorCal Porsche race guys and also later learned of locals
who have used his shop also.
