Carrera engine compartment heater blower woes
I have a bit of a issue with my engine compartment heater blower. It was working a week ago and now it longer is.
-When I lift one of the red heater leavers I can hear the click of the relay of the back. -On the blower electrical connector unplugged the voltage varies between 8V and 12V with he red leaver up. 0V with the leaver down. -The blower does not blow. -Jump 12V from battery to blower and it blows. -When I read the voltage on the connector with it is plugged in and red leaver up it's 0V. My guess is that the relay ($$$) is making a really bad connection and can't support any amps going through it. Thus the voltage varying with no load and the voltage dropping to 0V when a load is applied. Thoughts? That being said this was designed by the Porsche HVAC engineering team so it's overly complex and I don't know how to test if it relay to confirm it's faulty. |

Cold here in Maine, too...
First thing is to check connections. Pull the fan connector and check it. Then the relay and relay base. Look for the blue death dust. I use a small rifle brush to clean the female side. Make sure the battery is disconnected while checking, cleaning. When I reinstall all electrical connections I use a dielectric grease on the pins, sockets, everywhere. When it comes to electrical connections anything is better than air. If you are a gear head like me you may attempt taking the cover off the relay and look at the contacts etc. I have enclosed a pic of the engine harness connector on my 3.2

Hi

If you search around theres a thread on replacing your relay with two store-bought relays using your existing relay housing.

I think I solved it. I had already done as Tea Tray suggested and it had no effect. But that and Targa Me's diagram jogged my memory this morning that the fuses are in the engine compartment. I sanded them lightly and used some contact cleaner and it now works. I hope this is the actual fix and not a coincidence/intermittent electrical fault.

Here's why mine wasn't working. Easiest fix ever? Pretty close...

Your troubleshooting showed there was a high resistance connection. Cleaning the fuses almost certainly fixed your problem!
