tacky 911S in '911 & Porsche World'

I know this is a bit old but in the #113 911 & Porsche World Mag there is an article on a 1973 911S targa.
The car is relatively stock and in reasonable condition except for the exhaust pipes!!!!
Man are they ugly!
I do not have a scanner or digi cam handy but to describe them they are a pair of twin piped exhaust tips (4) that come straight out of the back and at angle of 45 degrees!!
If the car had been heavily modified/ a track car it might have been excuseable but this car was an attempt to be stock and owned by Autofarm of UK, a generally respected dealer/workshop.
maybe someone can paste a pic?
regards Ben

These exhausts are quite common actually, although they are an acquired taste. I have one (Ansa) sitting in my furnace room that came as a spare with my 912. I won't be using it but someone might want it one day...

Anyway, here's your pic:

Personally I really like quad exhaust, but I prefer the old Borla style where they came out two per side like a normal dual out.

A man's taste is a man's taste.

No its not the nice exhaust ever. If fact I think its more inappropriate than anything else.

The rest of the car is fantastic and it does sound very very good.

I'll see if I can have another looksee at it this week end as I'm getting my car worked on there by the owner of the Targa.

i'm thinking stock one pipe exhaust, then 2 more RSR pipes welded to the muffler.

normall road : just the stock pipe, and a cap on the other two ( so the CHiPs don't hear you flying low from 4 miles away)

track : off witth caps, and bring on the roooOAOAOAAAR !!

these guys did it on the car they used for the Monte Carlo rally, the pic ain't showing it too clearly though..

...ok but what was the guy thinking moving the steering wheel over to the right side of the car? Seems like a long reach for the
ignition key...jeeeeeez

I like the look. It reminds me of the monza exhaust that my dad had on his 71 VW Karman Giah cabrio. Man it made that 1600 sound so mean. I miss that car so much. 40000 original miles, original everything, perfect condition. And he SOLD IT!!!! Oh well, he got a 911 as a replacement, so I guess it's ok.

The Monza and Ansa muffler systems are cheap, but not very rust resistant, and can be a bit raspy.

That '73 would appear much more 'classic' with a Dansk ... and sound right, to boot!

Hey! My car has that very exhaust!

[rolleyes]

Now, it wasn't my first choice, mind you. When my engine guru Rick Deman finished the motor, I ws drained of spare cash, but he reminded me my old muffler was junk.... he had this lying around, so...............

.............so I now have scars on my shins that will never go away! Thankfully it doesn't sound bad, but I do want to put a 2 in 2 out on my SSI equiped 2.7. But that will be a winter project.

I like that exhaust. I think at one time they were Italian, Stebro, Abarth or someone like that. I remember it as having a distinctive sound, similar to the Ferrari 246 with a very similar muffler..

A very nice "S" Coupe around these parts, back in the golden era, early 70's, ran an ANSA exhaust. Owner's name at the time was Dennis Kranz. Black, black, sports seats, short gears, R wheels, and the engine had been enlarged and breathed upon by Richie Ginther's shop. It went like stink, and did sound great at auto-x's. All that said, I just didn't like the "look" of the exhaust...it was an aesthetics thing to me. Nevertheless, it was the car that started my "S" lust, since I had a mere T at the time. So yeah, I'd have proudly put the car in my garage, even with the ANSA... But the BAD thing about the car in the pic? Ewwww...it's a Targa.

Hmmmm...you don't know your location? Perhaps it's all that sunshine cooking your skull through the targa open top? I'd suggest buying a cap for those open top drives.

Hmm...
For a worthless post it sure seems to have seen some attention!

I satnd corrected if the exhaust in question is a bona fida porsche accessory, just appeared in my own opinion a bit tacky!
but the again, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder!"

PWD72S- My location is "?" -as I have 'No fixed abode'.

I am currently in Annapolis, MD and next week I will be in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for 2 days, then I will be in the UK for 2 days, afterwhich I will be in France for a week, followed by a week in the Uk and then to return to Ft. Lauderdale for a month, then down to the Caribbean for a few months, back to the Bahamas for a few more months returning to the East coast States for an undisclosed period! visiting FL, NC, VA, MD, NJ, NY, CT,MA, RI, and Maybe Maine/Canada.
So as you can see
writing "?" is alot easier

My apology. But still, wear a cap, okay?
