Fuchs in the front Minilites in the rear?

Been wondering about this- I've seen a number of pictures of 911's (mostly older) with Fuchs up front and Minilites in the back and have always been curious about it.

What is the reason? Move the wider rear Fuchs up front and buy aftermarket wider Minilites for the rear?

Thanks!

Love the look! I have seen some photos from the 70s of cars sporting this combo.

Originally done on the 911ST in 70/71 time frame. The rear would accept 15x9 wheels but there were no Fuchs 15x9 available. So to stuff enough rubber under the the 2" wider than stock fender flares a different manufacturer was used. Form follows function.

later on people started cutting and welding them.
the fuchs 9x15 911.361.020.03 came later, but I don't know when.
