I'm putting the drivers seat from my car on an office chair base. It was only going to be for the garage, but now I may need to bring it to the computer. I was promised this wheel for christmas...

I have a logitech force feedback steering wheel for NFS/PU and it is excellent! Not like driving the real thing, but if you gotta play on the 'puter, might as well use a steering wheel!
BTW: NFS/PU is IMO, the best PC based racing game around, esp. because of all 'them Porsches! -Z. |

I don't have a USB joystick gor my laptop yet, and thats what I play it on. Its faster than my desktop. So what are you left with. The keyboard. As soon as a 911 goes sideways and you have to correct, its over. Also try going through the alps with only full throttle.

Josh, keep playing with the keyboard. I got really fast with the keyboard before I finally bought a the Logitech force feedback wheel. One thing that helped me was that another driving game only allowed me to use one keyboard setup, once I got used to it, it was great. use two keys to work the gas and brake with one hand and then use the other hand and two keys on the other side of the keyboard to do the left right steering thing. Use lot's of oversteer to drive with the keyboard.
It is an amazing game, the physics are phenomenal, realistic but still fun. With a steering wheel it is tons better. |

NFS/PU is a game that's nice and force feedback is implemented pretty good, but for more realism, THE racing sim (note that I don't call it a game) is Grand Prix Legends (GPL), which depicts the 1967 Formula 1 season. GPL was made by Papyrus, the same guys that make Nascar sims, in 1998 and GPL still is the best sim around. ------------------ Ed Hut 1966 911 2.0 |

GPL is truly fantasic. GP3 was very dull in comparison and I have only tried the demo for NFS PU , and it fun but not really a simulation in my eyes.
I did try that PS2 game ...whats it called? It was fun, like the NFS series. I wonder what GPL 2 will be like , should it come about. |

The PS2 game is Grand Turismo 3: everyone is saying that it is by far the best car game ever. I haven't played it, so I cannot comment.
A big reason I like the NFS/Porsche Unleashed game so much is that it's not just a racing game! You can set up simple races and tournaments, but that's just the beginning. Here's some more: 1. Media pictures/ads/video from Porsche AG. Cool vintage stuff! 2. The EVOLUTION series: you start with the 356's and compete in various races: 5 races per category, I think. You win $$, upgrade your car, and if you finish top 3 after 5 races, you proceed to the next category. Right now, I'm up the the early 1970's, racing a 911 Carrera RS all modified out! 3. The Factory Driver challenges (by far my favorite section of the game): you progress from a Junior driver, to master driver! There are simple and not-so-simple challenges: from doing a 360' spin at the testing facility, to delivering a brand new Boxster S through the streets of Stuggart without getting a scratch on the car! They also have autox-type courses to run, slalom courses too. Imagine negotiating a GT1 through some slaloms! Fun, fun stuff! Oh well, gotta get back to work! -Zoltan. ------------------ PCA NNJR My Toy: |

Gran Turismo 3 for the Playstation 2 is very very good. The best racing game to date. It does have it's flaws, but still the best.
But my favorite driving game is Need For Speed Porsche Unleashed. Just because of the wonderfull Porsche you get to drive. ------------------ Matt Chamblin 78 911 SC |

I've played some of the other games, but I like the physics that NFS PU offers. The other games don't seem to offer the kind of car control that PU has. I've been through the evolution mode twice and most of the way through factory driver (on keybord I may add)and find that ketting the tail out on cars as they sweep through the streets is just too much fun. I also realized that I can drive a car thats too loose much better than one that pushes (996tt). This enlightenment has helped me with the set up on my 914/6 GT project. I will build the thing stiff and loose.
Anyone up for a game tonight? My screen name is DJM914-6 and the games I creat are usually titled Pelican/Rennlist or Old%classic. If you don't own the game yet, then buy it. It's only $20 at Wallmart or Target. The full game is SO much better than the demo! Dave |

Dave, I'd like to try a game through the modem but have never done it. I've registered with E/A but never gone further.
Email me the details and I'll race you tonight. I've just got a keyboard at this point, I've gone through most of the factory driver system (I'm at the GT1 Monte Carlo race). Let me know what to do to get online. Bruce Herrmann |

I agree with Ed, GPL is by far the most realistic racing sim out there. I also like NFS/PU, and Sports Car GT, and Touring Car Challenge (TOCA2). I have heard rumors that a great sports car racing game is set to come out this fall, but I have yet to see the offical name or release date.
P.S. I hate when the 13 year olds beat me in NFS/PU online racing. ------------------ Paul 1981 911SC/RS 2001 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro |

I don't think that PU is as good as Hot Pursuit because when you do a knockout there is no competition what-so-ever, i spank them every time, where as on hot pursuit you are sweating up to the last second.

One of the best Driving Sims (and I have most of them) is Sports Car GT. Lots of Porshces and BMWs. although somewhat dated graphically, probably 3 years old, it has some of the best racing physics around. Unfortunately you can't race online. For racing online you can have a blast with NFS/PU. Sprint Car Racing, Motor City Online, just to name a few Just my $.02

There is multiplayer support in Sports Car GT, you just have to plan it with other racers beforehand. You just can't click a "race online" button and race with complete strangers like NFS PU. Cool thing about SCGT is there are other cars you can download, like 917's 908's, Ferrari 512S, and lots more. http://www.zianet.com/rockaria/SCGT/
Some of them are a little buggy, but they are a lot of fun. Nothing sound's like a 917. There is also nothing like throttle oversteer in 4th gear at 150mph. Tom ------------------ 82 911SC Coupe |

I'm surprised no one commented on the wheel... YOu know, that's what the subject was really about.
