Wrong fuel filter?

So we got out of the 30's and into the 40's, so I was finally inspired to change the fuel accumulator and fuel filter.

After removing both, I realized that the new filter that I had purchased (from our sponsor) as a replacement for my '79SC did not resemble the old filter. Although the shape is similar, the old one is clearly larger than the new one, and the flow direction is reversed. As well, one of the fittings doesn't fit the new one.

New on left.

After doing a search of the old filter part number, it seems to be associated with earlier years (1973-1977). So is my old filter technically the wrong one? I don't have a choice but to buy the same filter due to the fittings issue.

Can anyone shed any light?

Thanks

Jason

Seems pretty clear cut.
The part numbers don't match.
Call Pelican and see if you can exchange it.
Did you enter your car's year on the site before ordering?

Order one for a late SC or 80's Carrera.

I ordered it from Pelican based on model/year.

But what's throwing me is that, as I stated above, when I search the filter number of my old filter, I get a reference to a filter for a 2.7 yrs '73-'77 ... not my 3.0

So I'm wondering if my old filter was in essence the wrong filter - that's my question.

FFF (fuel filter fitting) guide........

Jason,

This is the fuel filter fitting guide:

Filter #.............Inlet...........Outlet
-003..............14 x 1.5.......14 x 1.5
-016..............14 x 1.5.......14 x 1.5.........’80 to later

-021..............14 x 1.5.......12 x 1.5
-079..............14 x 1.5.......12 x 1.5..........earlier to ‘80

Your problem is the lack of suitable fitting adaptor/s. All these fuel filters could be installed practically to every models if you have the correct adaptors. I have the flexibility and adaptability of using any of the above fuel filters to my CIS engines because of the availability of a suitable fitting adaptor/s.

The -021 is the recommended fuel filter for your ‘79 but you could use any of the above fuel filters if you have the correct fitting adaptor.

I installed a fuel filter in a 79 SC last Thursday. Ordered from Porsche it looked like the one you have but came with fittings so it was plug and play. According to the Service Information booklet released in 78 for the first year SC the fuel filter was rated to filter smaller particles than previous.
