Smile Excellence or 911 & P. World?

A fun question:
The thread looking for a back issue of Excellence got me thinking that ultimately, I prefer 911 & Porsche World. I do get both Excellence and 911 & Porsche World, but that's what 'd choose if I had to - plus, it might be a cultural preference because in English.
Which one do you prefer if any?

Hmm, that's a tough one.
I like the running reports in 911 & P World. I like Bruce A's tech articles and the market reports in Excellence. IF I could only get one I'd have to go with Excellence. For those of us in the US the ads are "local"... and it's also cheaper.
The ideal solution is to get them all. It helps with the long cold winters.

I'd go with 911 & Porsche World if I had to choose. Overall, I think the British mags (I read several) have more info on running a car while the US mags are more about one-shot driving impressions or particular models of a car. My biggest complaint about 911 & Porsche World, in fact, is that it doesn't really cover Porsche reader repairs and/or restorations, which other Brit-mags do quite well. The folks in the "Running Reports" articles for the most part write about going to the local Factory Authorized Repair Centre, for instance. Even the mag's own projects are handled outside for the most part. Reading it, I don't get the urge to work there like I do when I read Practical Classics, where you see pictures of them dropping engines and welding door sills. I'd like more of a hands-on Porsche mag - even Panorama lets us down with that one.

If you live in Blighty, the choice is obvious. The magazine has a definite appeal for enthusiasts in the UK.

I pick up 911 World only when I find something useful in it. IMO, a lot of the features are on the lightweight side (huge pictures; not much information). For example: the recent series of articles on rebuilding an SC motor didn't give you any more info than you could find right here on this BBS.

Some of the "Running Reports" seem to be written by some pretty daft fellows. They should all be driving Fiestas.

Lastly, Excellence has the most knowlegible team of writers in Anderson, Colman, Sloniger, Paternie, etc.

Ok, you have both convinced me. I am sure I will need both to get through the long winter.

I know this has been posted before, but can someone post the subscription information to both mags?

Thanks.

EXCELLENCE all the way, if I could only choose one ad. I agree with Doug, I have learned more about re-building a 911 motor hear than the articles in 911 Porsche World. But I will continue to purchase both.

Both are required reading, but I give the nod to Excellence due to BA's tech notes. Euro Car is not bad either, depending on the month!

I get both, but I reckon I prefer 911 & PW.

I do think Excellence has more technical expertise on its staff and hence some of the articles are better. 911 & PW get most of there there tech info from the local Porsche garage. There is nothing wrong with that however.

The format of 911 & PW is better. I hate all the adverts at the front of Excellence, and the way they split the letters. Its very bad design.

I have to agree about the SC engine rebuild thing. It's as if they try to get you buy it next month by holding something back.
I would have rather had a huge article on a very specific aspect of engine rebuilding, as opposed to a very broad one that didnt help DIYers at all. It just showed how a garage spends *your* money.

When all is said and done I like them both a lot.

alex.
