ckelly, I had the same problem, trying to keep up w/ my buddie's 'Vettes. The 1-2 shift is slow in the 915. When I had my tranny rebuilt, I had the 8:31 r/p removed and replaced w/ the 7:31 r/p, as well as what has been suggested here. (Swepco, bushings, coupling, synchros, sliders, Sachs sport clutch, etc.) I've also removed a lot of weight (200#+) and I'm not done yet. The 1-2 shift is somewhat smoother now, but Gordo2 has it right, 2-5 will always be better. The most dramatic improvement was the r/p change, per Jeff Curtis' recommendation! SSI's/DI-DO muffler helped, and carbs are next on my car. This summer Lexan windows, RS door panels, manual windows, Tempostat removal, GE-40 cams, 3.2L P/C, etc. are on the list. We bought the wrong cars to keep up w/ Vettes in a straight line, but the 911 is a rolling work of ART, and every "improvement" brings me closer to equaling straight line performence. My buddy is getting worried, now, because I'm getting too close for his comfort.

I have the same problem with my 911. I just got new bushings, couplers, and linkage adjustment. Does the same thing still though and only to add to it now, it pops out of third. I'm still looking for a resolution.
