Sunroof Transmission Screw - 911SC

I cannot remove the screw in the sunroof transmission, the one you are supposed to use to use the hand crank. The thing is super-tight. (This is with the transmission out of the car.) Any ideas as to how to free it up? As it is now there is no way it could be removed to use the hand crank.

The screw seems to be screwed direction into the back (bottom, as installed) side of the pinion shaft, as turning the screw does turn the pinion. However there is no way to hold it w/o having it installed and I'm a little shy to do that and risk stripping the sunroof cables.

Ideas?

I had this problem the other day. The instructions I found online showed a screw that matched the hand crank tool. Mine was just a flathead though and was VERY hard. I used a flathead screwdriver that was a bit too small and it kept slipping. I found a screwdriver that fit the screw perfect and was able to open it with a wrench twisting the screwdriver while I pushed up. But it was very difficult and required a lot of force.

Maybe getting hold of a piece of old cable and feeding it in from both sides. That will hold the pinion and you can put force on the screw without damaging your good cables.

Does anyone out there have an old cable in their garage?

Yes, mine is a flathead also. I will try the suggestion today.
