Porsche specialists in Cleveland, Ohio
Hello guys,
Decided A good start to figure this out would be on his form. Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences with Porsche shops/specialists in Cleveland Ohio area? Beside the stealerships of course [/LEFT] I recently purchased A 79 911 and have a few things I need done. |

Steinels in Twinsburg is very good and there is another one in Avon (name I can't remember) that specializes in porsches as well. Both are very good shops.

The gold standard in this area.
I can help you with basic stuff given I have fiddled plenty on my SC for 20+ years (e.g., valve adjustments, CIS issues) but I am not comfy with invasive work on other than my car. I am pretty good. I am old but surprisingly slow.

FWIW, Stoddard Porsche in Mentor used to be the platinum standard for paint and major restoration. Probably well into the 90's
Factory owned dealership and if you had a color change done by them it was considered factory. They were bought out at least twice and the final buyout was Penske Porsche on Chagrin Blvd. They sucked up Fred Baker in Bedford, Sunnyside on 71 by the airport and maybe Cascade in Akron.

My 944 turbo was repainted in the late 90's at Stoddard in Willoughby and they did a top notch job.

Aw crap. Willoughby is correct. Butts up to Mentor. I lived in Concord out by 44.

I used to drive over on Sunday mornings and do a face plant on the windows to see what they were fixing in the early 90's. You could walk down behind and see more goodness.
They had a mint green 964 that could not sell. My daughter called it the "Slime Car" at three. Seven years ago bought some parts there and the cashier, an old timer, said she remembered that car.

I am proud to say that my 83 SC was one of the last cars to be painted (glass out) before they closed there paint and restorations at Stoddard in Willoughby, Ohio. There work was truly amazing !!!! There painter of 30 years, who actually painted my car ,has truly become my best friend still till today. The only person that I truly trust to work on my car from a mechanical and rebuilding aspect is Chris from Autobahn Extremist in Avon Lake, Ohio. He is a truly a "genius" when it comes to working on Porsche cars. I have found no one better and he is truly my best friend as well.

Autobahn is the name that I was thinking of. His outfit used to be in Rocky River. Met Chris once. I try to do as much work on my porsches as I can myself.

Thank you so much guys for the out pour of responses! I’ll definitely be calling around.
I don’t have to much work to be done mechanically just a few odds and ends but as far as paint goes, I’m getting my front end repainted by Mike at EMT collision across from Airport Infiniti and we’ll see how it comes out. I’ll need to redo both rear fender s as well probably. While I have you Locals on here, where is a good upholstery shop here too? Like everyone else I’m looking for best quality for best price haha |

Mechanically, my speedometer stopped working and for some reason my car won’t want to start for a cold start. It’ll take a few tries to get it fired up and I’m not sure if it’s a fuel prime issue, if for some reason fuel is escaping back into tank. So I drive around with starting fluid usually and that always does the trick.

I actually bought the 4, 7 by 16s Fuchs from them at the swap meet for 500 bucks, tells you how long ago that was. Sadly it is just not the same now that Stoddard has had to do their own thing. Which reminds me , its this weekend.

Always a good time. Weather is looking good. I’ll be there with my beast joined by a video crew from my company to capture the essence of the P car enthusiast scene. Stop me [mike) and and say you are a fellow Pelican.
