Pole Position install question

Hello Braintrust,

What items do I need to order to install Recaro Pole Position seats in my 1986 Carrera? Also, anyone know where there are Black Leather Pole Position Seats in stock?

2 Seats
2 pairs of Side mounts
2 sliders
Mounting hardware of some sort??
Do I need a seat base? I called Evasive Motorsports and the guy on the phone wanted me to order a seat base from Planted Technologies.

I thought I could just bolt the sliders onto side mounts and seat and then attach it to the OEM rails.

Thanks in advance.

I've done it both ways, the seat base simplifies things a bit but also adds a bit to the installed height, this may or may not be an issue for any given individual

W/o a base you will find that you need to drill some holes in the sliders to accommodate the 911 floor bolt pattern. I also source hardware that allows for a better fit than the hardware that comes w/ the sliders.

I like the Recaro sliders better than Sarco but there isn't a huge difference between them.

Belts may or may not be an issue, it depends on how the belts are set up in the car now. Some cars have the tunnel side 3 point belt hardpoint attached to the seat and some to the floor. If It's the seat then you either need sidemounts w/ a belt hardpoint integral w/ it or you will need to use the 964/993 RS hardpoint and associated hardware.

Last issue for some is hearnesses, for these you will need to install a tunnel side hardpoint to the chassis and a rollbar and either drill the floor or use the GT3 sub mount bars

Thanks Bill,

Seems pretty straightforward in theory.

I’ve got a DAS rollbar ordered. From what I have read, the safer way to mount the sub straps is with a sub-bar rather then bolting to the floor.

Do you have the part number for the 964/993 RS hardpoint? I have seen BK and rennline offer similar attachments.

I don’t really want to move the DME, so hopefully I can find an affordable sub-mount bar that keeps the dme in place.

Do you have any suggested harnesses? Seems like Schroth is a respected brand.

Thanks.

There are +/- either way, the true decision will be if the organization that sanctions the event mandates through the floor or not. That was the old standard and is still followed by many. Best to check to be sure

I've always used Schroth Hans Hybrid, 2" shoulder and 3" laps, no hardware in the crotch

They are take a bit more time to buckle up but are very comfy once strapped in

Thanks a ton for the responses Bill. I’ll post up some pics as this project progresses.

+100 on the Schroth 2" / 3" Hans Hybrids. Way better than having a chunk up metal all up in your junk. No chunk in the junk!

I think the 2” Hans shoulder straps should only be used when wearing a Hans, otherwise use 3”.

Yes. Using 3s with the HANS is suboptimal too. It works, but not as elegantly.

There is a company here in the UK called K300 Performance who are an approved Recaro reseller - a few years ago I bought their modfified steel mounts which have the seat buckle belt mount welded on. They also sit lower than the alloy Recaro version (in the background below)

Not listed on their site: http://www.k300performance.co.uk/recaro/

That setup looks ideal SP. The PP’s I purchased come with the steel side mounts. From what I understand the new seats are shipped with them now. I’m sure they incorporated them into the price one way or another. Nothings free...
