Sugar scoops

What are the correct headlight bezels for a 1986 USA 911 or 930?
Are they sugar scoops?
Thanks

The H5s didn't come out until 1987 and the North American cars until then had the 'scoops.

Sugar scoops appear to have been the standard. While this video was released in '87, all vehicles are '86 and US market.

Porsche did have a tendency to switch over to new parts late in the production cycle when its supply of old parts (e.g. sugar scoops) dried up. What month was your '86 targa built?

My '86 targa is still sporting its original sugar scoops (now with cibie h4 bulb assemblies)

The correct fitment is h4 lights with rings.

The fact that Porsche was forced to fit 1930s technology to their cars by the Feds is a mere detail that should be ignored with the passing of time.

Not for US cars. Because it was a crossover year, they likely had sugar scoops with sealed beams or possibly H5s. The Euro H4s were only on the RoW cars.

Had them installed, yes, but only because of backwards U.S. regulations.

What belongs on the car is H4s, as designed by Porsche. Sugar scoops are hideous looking and are terrible lights as well.

I don't understand the hatred towards sugar scoops, I think they look great and a period correct!

not clear on what you're looking to do -- sounds like you currently have the bosch h4 (911-specifc assembiles) and want to move to sugar scoops but run h4 inserts? The only thing that will transfer over from the bosch h4s are the h4 bulbs themselves. you'll need to get a 7 inch round h4 headlight (that replaces the sugar scoop's 7 inch round sealed beam unit) to fit the sugar scoops -- see, e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Hella-Halogen-Replacement-Headlight-Standard/dp/B000FKIURK

i didn't realize the h4 units wouldn't be transferable? as i just assumed they were 7 inch as well and would fit
