Temp gauge not working

Hi, I changed the sensor on my 1976 911. That didn't fix the problem- no movement at the gauge at all. How would you suggest I track down this gremlin. Thanks dave

Hi, Start with checking your ground connection to the gauge...What exactly is it doing ..not?
Also check with ohm meter the wire between the sensor and gauge..

If you tap the wire to the engine case at the sender, does the gauge move at all?

If not, grab a multimeter and ensure that you have continuity between the wire at the sending unit and the wire at the back of the gauge. If you do, you have isolated the issue to the gauge itself.

Thanks guys - I'll have to work on my multimeter skills.

Ok, my 911 is a 1976, the motor is a 1983. The wire to the temp sensor is blue/green stripe. The wire to the temp gauge is black/green. I’m assuming the blue wire at the motor is in a harness that was connecteded to the car’s harness. When I check the continuity of the blue wire at the sender to the black green wire at the gauge ( unplugged from the gauge) it reads 4382 ohms. The ground looks fine. Now where do I go from here?....

Thanks Dave, I appreciate your time and expertise

I’m guessing there is a problem at that connection, now where to look?
