Wehrle Relay Rating
 

Does anyone know the contact rating for the round black Wehrle Relays?

I have them installed as headlight relays. My low optioned SC had the available empty positions so I added a 3 position fuse block (factory) on the fuse /relay panel to fuse the wires going to the dimmer switch and 2 relays for the headlights.

I'm just wondering if the contacts are rated for the headlight load. I do not recall the wattage of the bulbs I have but I can adjust that to match the contacts if needed.

I have searched but just can not come up with the specs.

I'm sure even if you have 100W bulbs you'd be fine. 200/12=16.7amps - that really isn't that much.

Thanks Jonny042, thanks to Ohm's law for your calc. My questioning was I couldn't find the spec and not knowing what the other relay switched devices are on our 911s draw.

Would I be right thinking the high beams would be my highest current draw or would the fogs be higher (I don't have)?

Just for reference I only had a fuel pump and a horn relay up front and rear window defroster and heater blower in the rear.

Without knowing these loads had me concerned. I did clean up any connections at the time and have one relay for low beams and a second for the high beams. I like the factory look and when these relays were cheap and plentiful picked up a handful.

I have added fuses for the stalk feeds and the dash lights as well.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more help with actual ratings - I looked at a Wehrle Relay and a "made in china" one today and there was no clue on either one, but suffice to say the loads that the factory deemed worthy of relay control are higher that a couple of headlight bulbs. Wire them up and be happy. I think it's a great idea to use them, for the factory look, like you said.

I did a little more research and by the looks of it you would have a hard time purchasing a 12V relay with a current rating of less than 20 Amps. You're fine :)

Thanks Jonny042, I've got a road trip coming up this summer and just going over anything I got in my mind.

I've felt the relays and wiring after using them and didn't feel any alarming temps. I got to throw an amp meter on them for a base line I guess.

Here is a picture when I was installing them. Got a few sockets at the Hershey Swap a few years ago and had plenty of positions to install them. The high beam relay is not yet in when the pic was taken.
