Alternator Question

I need some help reassembling the alternator for my engine. The unit is P/N 911.603.102.04, made in France, and from my 1982 911SC.

I've been rebuilding this engine, and am to the point of reinstalling the alternator. Some time ago I took it to a reputable shop to have rebuilt, and when I got it back I only gave it a cursory inspection. At the time I took it to them I don't remember taking any of the external hardware, i.t. woodruff key, pulley parts, shims, the nut. However now that I'm ready to do something with it I've run into a situation.

When I pulled it out of the box I found it had a stepped shim or washer on the shaft, along with a 24mm nut. However the nut is 10mm thick, not the 8mm of the one I kept in the bag of alternator parts. And I don't remember seeing the stepped washer thing before, but maybe it looked like part of the shaft when I disassembled it.

So my question is are the parts correct and if so is the stepped washer oriented correctly? (It would appear to be as the diameter of the step seems to match the bearing face.) Should that nut be there? (I think not since it was run down as far as it could go on the threads and wasn't touching anything.) Perhaps I got more parts back than I sent? I have been unable to find an exploded view of the alternator alone that shows the stepped washer. See pic below:

The washer looks to be on correctly. Large flange toward the fan. Both the nuts on my 78 and 71 alternators are 8mm thick, so the one you have on your shaft is for something other than the alternator. You only use the 8mm nut.

Thanks for your reply. Sort of what I suspected. My guess is the shop put on that nut to keep the washer in place for delivery.

Interestingly I couldn't find an exploded view of the alternator/fan assembly anyplace that showed that stepped washer. I guess it's considered a part of the alternator as a unit.
