Need help identifying 911 front strut
Hi all.
I have a 1968 912, with 80s (SC or 3.2) front suspension. Time has come to replace the front shocks. I'd like to fit Koni inserts if possible. Can anyone identify this strut? Is the cap externally-threaded? Does anyone know if there's a Koni insert available for it? Sorry for the stupid questions. I've searched the forum and can't work it out. The only strut I'm familiar with is the internally-threaded type with the thinner rod. Thanks in advance! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1523254098.jpg |
That is a Bilstien strut. The shock insert is held in place via a roll pin that is inserted at the base of the strut. Sorry, I don’tknow if Koni offers an insert that fits the strut.

yep, its a Bilstein strut. for this one, only a Bilstein upside-down (turbo) strut will fit. non else.

Yeah, the body of the strut is actually up top, the shaft extends down in the green housing area. Unfortunately, only a Bilstein will fit (or rebuilt Bilstein like an Elephant/Vonn.)
Your wiper cap looks weird, nothing like the one on my '84. |

if yes, that's OK. this is the early version (imho up to 1982). the later has a more solid looking ring, painted greed as well. |

You guys are great - thanks!
The inverted design would explain why there's oil coming out of the bottom of the shock. If anyone wants to swap these for a set of standard struts (that would accommodate the Koni shock I want), drop me a PM. James |
