Twin plug short stroke 3.2
 

I need two coils for this engine...school me. Two 3.2 coils?
I understand they are small transformers, but does the fact that I am twin plugging the engine change the coil requirements? I have two 6 pin CDIs ready to go, and I know the coils need to be correct for the CDIs, or you can "fry" them.

Depends. You are using a distributor?

If you plan on essentially running two stock 911 SC type ignitions, then you need two compatible coils, the easy button for this on availability and reliability is the MSD High-Vibration Blaster 2 coil.

Been running that setup for about 14 years now with a converted 964 Distributor.

That’s what I used on both the twin plug 3.2ss in the 904 and the 3.6 in the 1975 911.

Type 8222 I'd say. right? it's the epoxy filled one.

It is compatible with the Bosch CDI Box.

I'm sure I can "cobble" together a couple plug wire sets, but I would rather not worry about continuity on 20 year old wires. MSD doesn't have wire sets for P-cars. You guys have recommendations for twin plug sets...Jacobs/Magnecor?

I use 964 wires, but I have a 964 distributor, never tried them on a stock-ish cap.

Think you might want to consider buying a set that you could cut and make custom length connections. You want 8mm wires, check with JE they make a twin plug distributor, but you could get a wire set. The come with correct plug ends and everything you need to fab distributior connections. Think it will give you a cleaner install.. Oh yea you will need a good wire cremping tool for spark plug wires

Nice, know your excited, got my in back in around November, finally getting enough break in miles, it is quite a different from when it was single plug in good way. Beast is the right word very torquey to say the least

Kingsborne has a nice website with all the parts you need to make original-like wires. Takes a bit of searching but you can find what you need there. They have the original Beru resistor type plug ends if you wanted to go that route. Pricey but we know they work.


Also need to make sure what type of terminal/connector your distributor cap takes and also worth noting is that there's two types of distributor cap end terminals. One is a crimp style terminal with a threaded end. So you need a nice crimp tool to make sure your terminals are securely crimped to the end of the wire. The other type is the crude but effective wood screw style boot that screws directly into the wire. Like I said, crude but apparently proven/tried and true.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the fancy OEM Beru stuff is nice but not a must. I have some wire sets that came on my racecar when I bought it. They are original old Porsche plug ends and GM style cap ends with common Taylor wire. The wires have GM style cap ends because the ignition is Electromotive XDi which uses "dumb" coils like those on a GM 3800 V6
