72 911T Fan Shroud Yellow Fiberglass

I need schooled concerning shroud design. I'm trying to source the correct shroud for my '72 2.4 T MFI motor. I see what appears to be two designs. One with a long, grey duct on top of the shroud and the other with a smaller grey duct at the rear of the shroud. The first one has a rectangle cutout in the yellow shroud. The second one does not.

Can someone clarify this and inform me which one is correct for my motor?

thanks

The long grey one is correct for a 72.

OK thanks.

Could someone provide more detail as to why there are different designs?...and the application for both?

thanks

The long gray is 72. The long yellow is 73. There is a short gray piece that fits over the engine oil cooler. AFIK, the design changed to allow for oil cooler service without removal of the entire intake, induction, fan, shroud parts. In 72 the long gray section is riveted to the shroud and thus not readily removable.

Thanks for that info. Do you know if they can be interchanged between the two years?

Physically, yes they can be interchanged. For the 73 you will need to find the missing (in the pic) oil cooler cover section.

Garage
for Service purpose to be able to better adress the oily trinity and the top of the oilcooler, I'd allways upgrade to the later.
