Are 964 fender/headlights compatible
Hi folks, just looking for confirmation on panel fitment before spending cash on replacement fenders. I have a euro 1985 911 with sugar scoops, passenger side fender is rusted near the bucket. I'm looking at hitting two birds with one stone by purchasing second hand euro 964 fenders with their original H4's. It's my guess the rust shown in the photos below is not worth the cost of repair. As for headlights, looking at the refurbished or reproduction H4's I can't see many options for less than $1000 after buying all the gaskets, bulbs, screws, etc...
Regarding these 964 panels for my '85, I've been warned about the following... - fuel door on 964 fenders is different from earlier G models, likely requires cut out and welding of original tank hoses/fittings. Since only the passenger side is rusted I'm thinking no point in bothering with driver fender, just replace the passenger fender (unless there IS a visual difference between the newer/older fenders... then I'd do both). - "964 H4's are vacuum adjusted' I'm not sure if this is suggesting possible fitment issues with a 1985 fender, or just stating how the 964 H4 light itself is slightly different behind the scenes. Are the 964 fenders 99% the same as what's on an '85? Are there any headlight or panel fitment issues should I prepare for in advance? Thanks! ![]() ![]()

Hi... Try contacting your local Porsche dealer so as to find out if the part numbers are the same.

The part numbers will be different because there are some slight differences on both sides, like mounting points. But this thread suggests the passenger side can be used pretty directly. I'm sure you'll get more recent, real-life advice, but looks like you should be OK:
Will 964 fenders fit my '88 carrera? Mark

Not sure on Euro 964 but US cars were H5 lights. Left fender will require a lot of work at the fuel filller to work. Both sides have an indentation at the bottom that yours don't.

Euro 964s had H4 headlights.

Correct, the part numbers are certainly different... which is the real reason I came to ask. If the parts are 99% the same with the major difference being the fuel filler (which happens to be on the fender I don't plan to replace) then I'm just left to confirm the remaining minor differences aren't enough to make the 964 fenders unusable.
I did see that other thread about the '88, the key piece of advice given was, "There are slight differences between the 964 and 911 front fenders. You have already described the tabs on the fender that are used for the 964 bumper to slide into and hold in place. There is a hole and indentation just behind the rear of the fender opening down low just before the door opening that is how the outer flexible rocker panel is attached to the fender - and most different is the drivers side fender the gas lit area is completely different. Front hood will bolt up just fine. Jim" He says the tabs to hold the fender in place are different, sounds like a small issue but without knowing I have to assume it could be a big deal (not being able to hold the fender on properly on account of the tabs not being in the right place). However, in lieu of "I've done it, it works" I'm going to have to trust in the indicators like: it sounds doable; that fella never came back and said 'they didn't fit!', the guy selling them said they'd fit, etc. Ok! Thanks all for the input, not a smoking gun but I feel at least sure enough now to spend the dough. I'll post back how it goes! Cheers

And depending on what you can get them for, the value of the headlights alone might justify it.

Hi!
I have a spare fender (driver side). If useful for you I can send every picture you need or measures. Anyway every part of two bodies have slight differences. For instance the two windshields differ 1,5 cm. in eight and the rear hood has different hinges

You can buy just the front quarter of the fender. So it's the rusted out headlight bucket, the surrounding area and the front most bit that meets the bumper. So you would cut that section out of your fenders and weld the new bit in. I can't remember who sells them so you'll have to google for that.
