How to remove glue residue from heater unit
I tried alcohol etc. to clean off what must be glue on the plastic heater control box.
Any suggestion on how to dissolve / remove this witout damaging the plastic? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1523515424.jpg Thanks! |
Try 3M weatherstrip adhesive remover, I have had good luck with it on lots of stuff. It is citrus oil based and shouldn’t harm your plastics. BUT just in case try it on an unexposed section first. You might also try Glue Gone.
The 3M product is available at about any auto parts place, the Goo Gone at hardware stores. |
^^^ This worked for me (3M Adhesive Remover), but my use was for slop as I was installing new carpet; the glue removed was barely dry. Like Steam Driver mentions, try it on a small, unexposed area first if you can, as your glue residue looks pretty old. Let us know if you have trouble finding it in Germany. Good luck.

As per my experience, Isopropyl Alcohol, benzine and brake cleaner (Wuerth) is usually safe to use but I would carefully try on a non visible spot first. You could also try to rub it off with a rubber eraser.

Thank you for the suggestions!
Since I had to wait to acquire some of the mentioned products I tried vinegar - which was successful! The trick was to place a vinegar soaked paper towel (plastic-wrapped) for several days on it - it was then possible to scrape it off with fingernails and an eraser. I will however for future use get some Goo Gone and Brake cleaner.... |
Great it worked.
Other chemicals may turn the plastic whitish (happened to me once). |
Brake cleaner ruins a lot of plastic and I have had GooGone lift paint.
The 3M mentioned in the beginning has not damaged anything so far. It does take two or three applications sometimes, but it's better than a ruined part. |
