The year of manufacture plates can be cool, but if you drive your car out of state be careful. There is a thread somewhere about a retired guy from Washington State who had year of manufacture plates on his American muscle car. He got pulled over in Las Vegas and because the local cop couldn't find his car on the computer system, they hauled the old guy in for suspected auto theft. Much hassle in the middle of what should have been a fun trip.

I just take whatever they have in the pile at the DMV for cars newer than '73.
I get vintage year plates for stuff '73 or older.

They can look at the car to tell what it is (or better yet, not know what it is), nothing really clever to say about my car that I want to pay for on a vanity plate.

Nice! I really liked Würzburg, I lived down the road in Bad Mergentheim for a while.

In Oklahoma you can put a year of manufacturer plate on it, and a sticker goes on the windshield. The "real" plate has to be in the car, usually in the trunk. Same for personalized plates. A regular plate is supposed to be in the car.

Only of my friends has the documented oldest Porsche sold new in North America. A 1952 356 Speedster.
