Valve Adustment Feeler Tool prototype
 

This isn't new, buts its been NLA for a long time. I decided to have a tool based on what island911 did years ago that is a little easier to hold and the feeler stock could be slid out from within instead of changing blades. Our host hasn't carried a version of it in years as far as I can tell.

This should make it easier to get to under the cat on my Carrera. The .004 Stainless stock slides in and out very smoothly. The tool is made from spring steel, sourcing strips of stainless or cutting 303/304 SS sheets was not cost-effective for a single trial. The crimp slider was just something bent on, I would have wrapped it all around if I wanted more effort into it. While this automatically puts the 90deg bend in the feeler stock and works very effectively, I think other iterations were straight and the user put the bend in it.

My machinist had absolutely no idea of what I was trying to put together, but I think it came out pretty well. What do you all think?

I'm open. While some tweaking could happen, I'm happy with how this turned out. If others like it, great. I did not have my bender tool this for quantity, but if there's enough interest I'm open to having that done.

I might be interested in this depending on pricing of course. I have a 25' roll of Starrett .004 feeler stock I think #666. Should be beyond a lifetime supply.

I have a feeling that the "lip" at the bottom of the tool may get in the way somehow, just a thought.

The bent lip will take up space that the blade needs. Some areas are pretty tight, and the blade should be able to get all the way under the elephant foot. The tip needs more grab area, as in flat, to keep the blade from pulling out. I have the 1st Island911 prototype with the bent lip and while it was a good idea, it just doesn't work as well as the straight model.

I'd take the 90deg out. With the slider I can put a bit of tension on the pinch with the angle as I have the edge meeting the feeler stock - but I can test it more once the 90 is taken out. The slider can full wrap to avoid accidental loss.

I would be in for one.

The lower lip should be a tad longer than the upper to support the 90 degree bend in the blade.

I finally got around to using a dremel to take off the lower extension of the prototype. Though I am not experienced with using a dremel, I believe this is good enough to show where I think the tool should be. What do you all think?
