Eng/Tras seperation?

Well, I'm in the middle of my 1989 930 clutch replace, engine and tranny out but I've gone and left all my factory manuals and my 911 projects far away from the garage I'm working in.

Having done the engine tranny drop on my 68, I thought I'd be ok without however I've hit a brick wall! Help!

How the heck do you seperate the engine and tranny? I see the t/o bearing is my hold up, but don't know what needs to happen after the 4 magic nuts holding the engine/tranny together are off!

Help! I gotta get this sucker apart and back together here! Anyone?

Thanks guys!

Is the clutch release lever on the bottom of the transmission bell housing free to move or is it still connected to the helper spring? The release bearing fork should just flip off the release bearing (TO bearing) allow you to separate the transmission from the engine. Why are you replacing this clutch? Was it still releasing before you dropped the engine and transmission? Is there any chance you have friction welded the tranmission input shaft to the pilot bearing in the end of the crankshaft? Jim

Thanks for the reply, Jim, but on my tranny the t/o bearing fork is on the side, not the bottom. Actually I went and looked at it again and figured I could screw a bolt in the shaft to remove and also realized I have the alldata DIY subscription for the car and what do you know? There was a diagram explaining the same!

CRISIS AVERTED!

Thanks! Back to the garage!

Yes, the TO bearing release fork is on the side, the shaft that moves it runs vertically inside the bell housing and the outside clutch release lever which turns the vertical shaft is on the bottom in a horizontal orientation. I do not believe you can pull the vertical shaft out as the release fork is secured to it with a roll pin. You will need to either allow the clutch release lever to move freely or remove it altogether (secured to the vertical shaft with a retaining ring? Good luck, Jim

All you have to do to seperate the tranny from the engine is snap the large arm that runs along the bottom of the tranny toward the front of the car and the fork will be free to disengage from the throw out bearing.

Thanks for the info. guys, I've read the tech info. sections but my clutch release isn't on the bottom and doesn't run vert, it's horizontal (see the image). My issues were from my lack of familiarity with this system (it's an 89 so it has the G50/50 for what it's worth.)

Now I have another problem, I can't get it all back together The engine and tranny get to within maybe 3/4" of where they completely mate and the no joy. See the other frantic posting regarding this ugly issue...

Thanks again, guys!

Ooops that would be a G50 . . . sorry. Just pull the shaft and the fork drops but you know that.
