4 post lifts with movable tracks

Anyone have a a suggestion for a brand and model of a 4 post lift with adjustable tracks. Looking to buy a 4 post but also need to drop my engine. Most lifts I am looking at have a narrow width between the rails of the tracks. Thanks Jerry

Any of the lifts that have movable tracks are going to be true "professional grade". Most of the ones for home use are deigned for storage. Check Bendpac but you'll probably be shopping for a lift with a 14k or higher capacity and way more expensive than $1900 four post in my garage. It will also be substantially larger and heavier. Might be a little overkill for just one engine swap?

However, if you just want the lift for service and not for storage, check out a QuickJack. They are portable, perfect for engine removal and cost under $1500.

I think these guys have one where the racks are wide enough to let the engine pass through.

Engine drop is readily do-able on a 4 post lift that hasn’t got enough space between the ramps. You just hang the arse end of the car over the back of the lift.

what is the width of the engine with and without the tin, anyone know? Brian, read your post on engine removal from behind. Looking at a harbor freight motorcycle jack to aid in that process.

Been looking at lifts, too. I was just looking at the Wildfire Lift website, yesterday, and I'm totally impressed. They are from Minnesota, and their lifts are comparable quality to Back Yard Buddy lifts. Check out the website. Good quality for the price.

4 post lifts take up a lot of real estate and they are not cheap. A 3.0 motor with tins is 38 inches wide. I use a jack and a $7 wooden dolly to lower engine. Jerry how are you doing?

I just checked it briefly. Looks almost identical to the Direct Lifts I posted earlier. I have a Direct Lift. It is only OK to me. The external release rods a sort of a PIA in a tight space. I constantly kick them as I scoot around my garage. Also, the locking notches are spaced wider apart than some of the other lifts I have looked at. Not a big deal in a large space, but again an issue in a tight garage.

I have a BendPak HD9, it has a narrow/normal and wide setting. I put mt 914 on the wide setting to drop the engine out, it had a wider than 911 engine mount bar, so it should work well for a 911.

Anyone with an HD9 dropped a 911 engine before? I'd test mine out but the 914 has been up there for a LONG time w/o drivetrain, so I can't get it off the lift yet.

I have a friend that owns a 76 and an 85. He has a Backyard Buddy 4-post and swears by it. He spent the money to buy the bridge jack option.
