Replacement sheetmetal for parcel tray?/rear window?

This weekend I found the first significant rust on my 69 911E, the rear window leaked and over the years, the rear parcel tray/top of engine box rusted in several areas. Are there any replacement panels for this? Does anyone have an already clipped 911 that can be clipped some more?
It doesn't appear structural, and I could certainly make some sheetmetal patches, but it would certainly be more correct to do it with "real Porsche metal"

Oddly enough, although it is coated with surface rust, all of the rest of the floor pan is rock solid...I dug up the rest of the horsehair and never saw my driveway!

I have that problem too.

As far as I can find out there are no restoration panels available for this area and the design changed in 74 so if you are concerned about originality it will be difficult to find a clip that isnt rusty. Good luck.

Have you looked at the rear seat pans?

You really need to remove the sound deadening and the underseal to be absolutely sure about the floors

Yep, after much scraping, all of the pans and seat wells are clean and ready for POR15, it's just that rear tray, exactly like yours, that needs to be fixed.

I'm doing this repair to my '70E. I purchsed a chunk-o-911 from EASY in Emmeryville, Ca. I have psent 20+ hours extricating the donor panel from its neighbors. It is a lot of work, but it can be done! I just got it free this weekend. Next up, completing removal of the remaining pieces on the car. Although it is a pain, I'm glad I'm doing it. It will be worth the peace of mind. I paid $200 for the panel. It came from a '69, and was rust-free, and an exact replacement. EASY was great to work with (ask for Jim). By the way, I think the panel changed in '73, not '74.

Hi guy's,

I have a section of the rear shelf and the seats cut out of my 69T that I would be willing to sell. The shelf section doesn't quite go all the way to the corners but it is rust free. The seat section is also rust free. I can take pictures tonight if you are interested.

Thanks,

Here is a look at the area after it was cut out. This should give you a little bit of an idea of the size of the panels.

Thanks.

Where are you located Slider? I'm interested if you are within a few hundred miles. I think shipping would be a pain.

I'm not sure on the shipping. They are not that heavy and I think I can get a little break on cost's through my office. I am located in Colorado. Should be pretty easy to wrap them in cardboard and ship them through ups. Let me know and I will take some good detailed pictures tonight for you.

no rust...but

just in case I am doing to POR-15 thing to extend the life of my car. I did find one spot under the passenger door...that's an easy fix from what I can tell. Here are some pics of my rear deck and pans.

I had some trouble getting all that damn glue off, but I was able to start the coats of POR-15 today.

GRMper,

It sounds like you need the section of the rear shelf that is still attached to my car.....

If you need more of the corners than the middle, give www.dartauto.com a call. They are good guys and seem to have fair prices.

Same thing was encountered on my 73T. Dart-auto let me cut what I needed out of a later...post 80s coupe...at a VERY resonable price. It was an exact replacement. Plus it was galvanized. You need to replace as much of the panel as possible. Beware that on the edges of the rear seats ...sides left and right the seat buckets are attached to the longitudinals, and unless you drill the welds out (on the donor car) you will not have enough material to re-weld them in. I had to add an inch or so of metal to these areas before fitting them. Good luck, this was a mother of a job but when it's all welded up youll be pleased you replaced the whole thing. Also, don't forget on the back side of the replacement piece are straps used for securing fuel lines , electricals etc. Make sure you weld those up on the bench first....it would be a bummer to have to weld them on from underneath!

My vote for DART

I had the same rust issues on my 73E and I also got DART to cut out a piece from a late 70's coupe.

DART's price was very reasonable and very fast service.

Now, the body shop that actually welded in the replacement....$$$$. But it looks great, can't tell there was a problem.

Hey Speedo, I'm in the south end of Denver, want to compare welds?
