Removing fiber mat adhesive residue

I am trying to lighten up the SC. I removed the interior, carpets and alot of fiber insulation.
What is the best way to remove the fiber mat and adhesive residue?
Is there a way to clean this without damaging interior painted surfaces?

I have used brake parts cleaner. Are you planning to keep the interior bare ? RSR carpet kits usually cover up everything if you are going that rout, and this really looks great !
Good Luck !

3M or similar adhesive removers work great without being as harmful to paint as Brake Cleaner...

I have the stuff in a spray can, but I have seen Heavy Duty Adhesive remover in the paint dept. of my local Ace. It is often used for removing linoleum adhesive when stripping a floor and is quite potent...

Wow! Instant answers! Thanks guys.
I will try them all tonight. I dont know what route I will go as far as covering with carpet or keeping it bare. I looked at RSR carpet kits but thought they were too expensive. Last night, I went to Home Depot and bought $20.00 worth of cheap indoor/outdoor carpet just to experiment. I traced the old carpetring and back shelf, cut it, slapped it in. I didnt glue it I just laid it in just to see how it looked. It didnt look half bad considering it only took an hour.
However. I would like to clean the interior to see how it looks without carpet.
Thanks.

acetone, but it will take the paint off!...might be easier to respray, rather than trying to remove the glue and save the paint. I got some WUR paint and worked fine, but this was the engine compartment.

I found some really good stuff!
It is called Professional Strength De-Solv-It.
It can be found in the K-Mart paint dept. (the De-solv-it at Wal-Mart is not the professional strength stuff).
I tried almost everything on the adhesive residue, but nothing worked well, plus the fumes in the garage worried me.
I applied this stuff, waited 10-15 min. and the adhesive was rubbed off with only minimal effort. Not alot of dangerous fumes, very safe!
I didnt have a chance to try it out on other stuff, I am on the road this week, but I cant wait to try it in the engine compartment when I get home.
