Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't these supplied to Porsche? Only available through the Porsche parts network? When my 915 was being gone through, I inquired about going to the Quaif unit. Mechanic talked me into staying with the original limited slip. He did so by offering to buy me the Quaif if he could have my original LSD unit. Oh-oh...

It's been twenty years since I knew anyone who made LSD.

HOOT! Never tried it. Decades ago, I helped a buddy haul his 1960 356B coupe out of a freeway ditch. He described remembering driving around the stars and planets. That was enough to convince me that I didn't need to "expand" my mind. Tuning in and turning on was okay..as Tim Leary said, but if "dropping out" meant running a mint 356 into a freeway ditch? Nope, wasn't MY scene...

HAHA!! Someone must be on some lsd right now!! J/K But, if you turn the input shaft on a box equipped with a limited slip differential wouldn't both outputs turn? On my 914/01 box, when you turn the input shaft, only the right side output turns, when you hold the right side, and turn the input, the left side turns, that means its an open rear end, right? So where can I get a limited slip differential other than the rediculously expensive quaife unit?
Thanks, Cale [This message has been edited by calereeves (edited 11-04-2001).] |

Yes, sounds like you have an "open rear end", as the guys in prison say. But still, maybe not...possibly a malfunctioning limited slip. There are ways to tell by the number stamped on the transaxle, but I don't have a reference to the numbers. The only other way is to split the case & look. The "acid test", if you will. BTW, I know of nothing cheaper than the Quaife or the factory LSD unit. Welcome to the world of the "Porsche Tax." Many times, I've told myself I should have stuck with (Pontiac) GTO's...
