Vacuum leaks!

While fixing the leaking intake runners I found this small rubber hose part behind the fan with a huge cut!!! Problem is the part that was torn is built into the metal pipe it goes into . I cut the bad section off and installed a smaller hose part I had between the two and used small hose clamps. Fixed!! I just wonder how much that hose assembley and pipe would cost???

Check on the other side of the gray plastic Y venturi pipe too - I had a really small leak there too.

I use a piece of heat shrink tubing on that.

Like fuel line shrink tubing? That stuff is tough. I am not even sure it is shrink tubing but to get it on you have to heat it.

Good for you - But like Ivan, I was thinking vac leaks (from your other thread and my posts) as well.

Please look for more like around the Air valve near the dipstick. Get a good light and check the bends and tapered parts of the lines for cracks and smiles large and small. I have a suspicion you'll find a couple more.

Use the vacuum decal on your deck lid as a guide. Smaller vac rated lines are available at the autozone-like stores.

And please give us some feedback on the impact the fixes had on your idle?

Ok dan. Will do. Giving me a headache but learning more about my car. I bet a 1969 911 was easy to work on!

Man I didn't want to contribute to a headache - maybe this will help.
If you can, check the vac lines you can see to ensure they're attached - you'll need a small extension mirror and lite.
There's a couple easy ones too (sort of).
The small Vacuum Limiter (PCV) near the oil fill fits inside a small rubber adapter which sometimes rips like the torn rubber on the pipeline you found, and check the larger line for cracks around the internal restrictor (red circle) -

pic:

Check that the ring that joins the 2 intakes halves is intact and in good shape, and look behind the throttle body to make sure any lines are connected.

There are more (brake booster, FPR, damper, cruise, etc) but they're harder to get to and we can check those later if you are still having issues.

I was able to tighten all the intake runner bolts except for the ones under the air box. Don’t know how to get to them yet. Installed new ICV valve!

Idle seems a bit better now after fixing vacuum leaks and new ICV. But still does this weird bucking snap thing when warming up. And exhaust has some popping and mini backfires. I have been trying to do the base idle with the jumper at the two points but car does not idle well enough to set with the idle adjustment screw . I’m not really sure which way to turn the screw. It’s not really an idle screw like I’m used to when the idle goes up or down when you turn it right or left . Well, I have two more intake runner bolts to get to anyway. I’m finding these loose bolts and hose leaks . It is amazing that my car ran so well for so long! I do understand that the computer sets the idle. Not sure what the idle screw does.

Hi Nick if it is popping into exhaust ,that is a sign of too rich..idle icv you bypass with the relay out and jumper wire ..idle screw should make the idle up or down.I forgot did you play with your mix adjustment?

This was my issue too.
The lower of Dan's pictures shows where my issue was centered. She ran 'fine' up to 3500, but when I pushed it and RPM's went up, there was a random miss that only got worse at higher rpm. Sounded 'fine' with no load sitting in garage...
Looked up "3.2 misses" etc, on this forum, for some ideas of WTF ?????
Got out my handy telescopic mirror and a light, and started checking the vacuum lines 'behind' the throttle body...(damn hard to see back there) and found the line from the air valve (by the oil tank filler neck) to the Throttle body, had come off of the temp switch, and....the line from the temp switch that loops back around and down to the intake manifold was off too. Basically the temp switch was not 'working'... managed to get my hands back there (no easy task) and re attached the two vacuum lines, and OMG !!!! didn't just run better, RAN GREAT ! I have only just bought this Targa with a 3.2, and I've been sorting through the 'deferred maintenance' issues, and hadn't realized how poor she was running, until now.
Thanks to this forum and all you guys for helping me sort this out myself. Love this place.....
