Smile My New 911

Hi everyone! Ive been on these forums for a couple of years now researching and learning about these cars and finally bought a 1989 911 3.2 late last year. I originally looked for a 964, hence the screen name, but after a while, really started to fall for the older cars. Since then, I've been slowing going through the car to freshen things up and to make it my own. Ive done most of the work myself using this great forum as a guide.

Its mostly going to be a weekend street car with no plans for the track.

What's been done so far.

Removed all AC components (wasnt working)
New Bilstein HD shocks all around (done by pros)
LED headlights
LED gauge bulbs
Classic Retrofit Fuse panels (front and rear)
RS door panels
New seatbelts
Center console deleted
SW Chip
M&K GT3 style exhaust with stock heat exchangers
Rennline Floorboards
Rebel Racing Engine mounts
Refurbished cracked dash with vinyl (PAIN)
JWest G50 coupler

Next is the rest of the suspension (bushings/torsion bars) which I think are all original.
I dont want to do too much at a time as I rather be driving it, but the snow doesnt seem to stop here in NJ.

Kinda sucks this year. You guys are getting more beat up than us in Ohio.

Tell me why the dash was such a bee-otch. It's work but it's lock step basic procedure.

I had to redo it a bunch of times to get it to stick around the curves of the gauge area. Lots of stretching. Its still not perfect, but its better than it was before.

Nice car, I have a white 88. I like the look of blacked out rims on yours. Oddly enough I just noticed 10 mins ago that I have an identical crack in my dash. It wasn't there earlier.

Few questions for you.

What LED headlights did you get?
What is that knob thing below the clock?
What kind of floor mats are those.

I think the knob this below the clock is a magnetic cell phone holder.
just my guess

You have obviously done your homework. Serious reduction in non-essential weight (time to also lose rear seat backs. You will be amazed how much they weigh.) and sporting and purposeful upgrades. A fantastic start and a great looking car.

P.S. the dash recover was impressive.

Headlights are from Flat 6 Illumination. Francois was great to deal with. Before the upgrade, driving at night was like holding a couple of pen lights out the window.

The knob as others have mentioned is a Rennline magnetic phone holder.

The mats are from Coco Mats. I made a pattern to work with the Rennline floorboards and sent it out to them. In a few weeks they came back and fit great.

I thought about removing the rear seats, but I have two small kids that really like riding in the back. The 911 is already like a gokart compared to my daily, a lifted Wrangler Rubicon 4 door. hahaha Its awesome in the snow though.

Very impressive indeed. Did you pull off the vinyl dash cover job w/o removing the windshield? Skills!

Looking great! Nice upgrades too.

I did a pretty comprehensive suspension upgrade a few years back, and did my best to catalogue the whole process. It might be helpful when you do yours.

I did not have to remove my windshield to take the dash out. Taking it out and reinstalling it were both actually very easy. I think about 7 nuts was all. Most of them accessible through the gauge holes and the rest through the front trunk.

I think this is the case for dashes 86+. If I had to remove the windshield, I may have not done the dash until much much later.

Thanks for the link. I am pretty sure I read it in the beginning of my research while searching for a car, but will definitely go through it again.

I really dont see tracking the car in the future, but you never know. But for now, all street. Just a refresh off all the old and worn out components, lower it a bit, and drive.

Nice!

Any urge to change the seats?
Some early Turbo seats may be suitable.

Great looking ride. Let's see some shots of the exhaust if you don't mind. I just purchased an '87 and can't wait to add a few tasteful touches and the GT3 exhaust caught my eye. How do you like the sound?

Seats are on the way, coincidently, also from Germany. Custom refurbished Recaro Expert M seats. Hopefully I can get them mounted. The vinyl on the current seats are rock hard from age.
