Early seat fore/aft adjustment

Hi Team. On the 69-73 seats, which way do the knobs on the fore/aft adj lever point? To the inside of the car or the outside? Do they point the same way on the left and right seat?

I’m trying to put mine together after refinishing them and can’t figure out how the driver side should go. It makes sense the knob should point toward the center of the car. But then I have to press the knob down to release the seat. This doesn’t seem right. Thanks.

If I remember correctly (haven't sat in or adjusted those seats in a long time), the knobs point inward on both sides.

After installation in the car, they point inwards. But when out of the car, they will be pointing outwards, due to spring pressure rotating them around about 180 degrees. When adjusting the seat, you pull the lever up.
