Please try flipping the stalk switch to the right turn position with the ignition key in the OFF position and the headlights off as well. Doing this should light the right side turn signal filaments for both the front and the rear, as well as the "additional turn signal" (side marker, if so equipped), steadily, yet not light the indicators on the tach. Knowing the result of this simple test (just reach in and flip the stalk lever up) will isolate the faulty branch without too much fooling around. This is also the easiest way to apply voltage for testing purposes, because there's no pulsing to contend with and there's little drain on the battery. Referencing the right side of the page in the attached diagram you'll see that the pathway through the turn signal contact (stalk switch) on terminal 49R's black/green lead hits the T4 plug on pin 6d and jumpers to pin 6e, and from there goes to the "hot" side of Fuse 9. At that point it splits off to get to the Right Rear turn signal (which we know to be operating), without passing through another fuse. The Right Front lamp filament DOES feed through Fuse 9, as does the additional turn signal (again, if you got one... USA cars did). The "downstream" side of Fuse 9 is the side that has the black/green and the blue wires attached (don't know whether this is physically the top or the bottom of the fuse, it don't matter), but that's the side that goes through the T 1c junction (that was mentioned earlier), and then on to the lamp housing. The lamp's ground is the same as the parking light, which we know works. Looking at the diagram and figuring that if Fuse 9 is good (test lamp lights, or your voltmeter reads the 12V on both sides of the fuse), the choices are either a slipped off connector at the harness behind the headlight, a corroded/goofed up contact in the lamp socket, or blown filament in the lamp (which you've already replaced or checked by swapping). Best wishes... |
Guy's- tested fuse #9 with test lamp again with the stalk in the upward position as suggested- lamp pulsed repeatedly. removed right headlight, everything was connected. i removed the black w/white stripe and the the black w/green wires from the plastic piggyback spade housing, cleaned it- as well as all wire spade connecters. re connected all wiring nice and snug and PRESTO! works perfectly now... on to figuring out why my arrow indicators don't flash on the tach when the hazards are on. i owe you guys a few rounds!! thanks a million- very much appreciated!

Great that you fixed it.
On to the next thing as you said. :) |

Here's a closeup of the diagram showing the wires feeding the indicator lamps in the tach. The black/white wire is for the left and the black/green is for the right. Working your way back from the lamps those two wires hit two separate 3-wire junction points, one of which is the turn signal stalk switch harness. We already know that the turn signals light up the indictor lamps, and we already know that all four hazard lights blink, so the open spot in the circuit is no doubt the short link between the two junction points. If I recall correctly, those junction points are spade-tip connectors behind the tach. I'd pull out the tach, gently prop it up with the steering wheel so that you can see how the wiring connects up... my bet is that when the stalk switch was replaced, one leg of the black/white and black/green wires didn't get reconnected. If you can print out the blown up diagram and use it as a reference while you're fanooging around the tach hole with your fingertips and biting down on a flashlight so you can see, it might help. I mean, dude, you're an expert at spade-tip connectors now. Well done on the other issue! Let us know how it goes, then call out for a Giordano's Chicago-Style Pizza for me. |
