I had a similar experience and found that my fuel pump relay was loose. Found some threads on here that said to spread out the 5 prongs on the relay slightly. They are cross hatched so I wedged in a small screwdriver to make each prong larger. This allowed my relay to fit tighter and all has been good since (crosses fingers).

There’s also some info on this link for testing:

Good luck!

The 101 projects says points went away in 1977, not 1978. Weird. Here is a pic of my distributor with the cap pushed out of the way:

There is a small light tan wire going from the harness to the side of the distributor body, with an electrical taped junction that grounds out on the engine tin. I checked the 1" black wire in the distributor with a meter and it's fine.

You have a Bosch CDI unit not the Permatune.

Your ignition components look pretty old, might just be good insurance to replace.

Not an expert on coils, but I think that they aren’t supposed to be upside down? Hopefully someone can comment on that.

The connector type which can come loose. May be 3 of them. Don’t recall. Check them for tightness. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1526866201.jpg

Hey, just forgot to update this, simple fix.

I just took the points and dizzie cap out, sanded the contacts with 800 grit, lightly, and reinstalled. Its' been 100% fine ever since.
