I do it here - 66 Porsche restoration

Hi,
my name is Michael and I´m from Germany. I like classic cars and make some restorations my whole live. I start in my early years with a 68 VW Beetle convertible, than while I study a 70 Alfa Romeo Spider and some other cars. Currently I have an 82 Porsche SC 3.0 and I bought some years ago a 66 Porsche 912 for restoration.

Since I´m here in the forum, reading so many interest threads and learn so much from you, I decide to post my restoration of the 66 Porsche over the next month or years - I don´t know ;->. I hope it is ok posting a 912 here, but the body is the same. And here are more people to get some help if needed. When I make some engine tuning I post it in the other one.

I start only now because I had to finish a restoration of a 53 Horex Regina (see photo below).



I bought the 66 Porsche by a dealer in the Netherlands. The car has an interest history. Start as a Porsche company car at Germany. Then it went to California.
Don´t know when and to which persons. And then comes back over Netherlands to Germany.

So I started some month ago with dissemble the car. The base of the car is nearly original. Someone has only changed the front panel and the engine hood. The engine is running.
There is rust on the rear panel shelf and on the rear floor panel and some little places on the rear seats panels.

Well, that’s a deeper starting-off point than on fears... but I guess you knew what’s coming?

Looks worse than it is. I cut of the panel and drilled out the welding points.
So I can fit the original panels in.

Johan: I´ve followed your hot rod project. It was very interesting.
I´m so jealous how you can tune up your cars in US. In Germany we´ve the so-called TÜV. We´ve for everything legal requirements.

Last week fit in the rear Panel shelf. It was not easy to find one panel with welded brackets for the engine hood and the cover inside.

I will see if my workshop is enough prepared for the following metal work now.
For this I have a beading and a shrink/stratch machine. It´s more accurate and faster than form it only with a hammer by hand.



First I start with the additional panel for the rear panel shelf.




Looks not bad or what do you mean? Only drill the holes and the first panel is finish.

some measurements for the new one.

Hi,
it´s February and very cold here at Germany. So it´s not very nice working in the garage. But I´ve done some work for my shrink/stratch machine.

That's brilliant work. I just bolted mine to a metal table I have, but your solution is much better... Nice job!

Does the TUV apply for even 30+ year old cars?

Johan: sadly yes and if you are not careful you get so called "points". If you´ve to much points you can loss your driving licence.
