Ebay Fuchs Fraud?
I’ve been looking at Fuchs prices on Ebay - particularly at 9x16’s. In a quick search, I found these 3 ads that contain discrepancies that could drive the prices up. Don’t know if this is this fraud, or just ignorant sellers, but it seems more than coincidental. Because there are a lot of us who buy things from ebay, I wanted to once again a warn all to ask questions and be preped to flush your cash when you get a bad or misrepresented deal. Buyer beware.
He calls these turbo wheels. They appear to be 6 and 7s: He calls these 930 turbo wheels but they are 7 and 8’s: He calls these 7x16 turbo rear wheels: |

Early factory Turbo's had 225's on the rear. 86's and later had 245's on the rear. These could be early Turbo wheels.
That last set could have used a bit of cleaning and Vaseline to help the sales price!

At least none of those ads actually listed incorrect widths.

Eric, those *are* 7s and 8s. They look exactly like the set that I have. The difference is that they are 15" rims, not 16" like what most people are looking for.
In every one of the ads presented in this thread for review, the seller clearly defines what is being sold. (With the exception of Eric's example, of course.) Whether or not the wheels were offered on a particular year of 930 or not does not constitute fraud. As Ebay is an auction site open to everyone - dumkopfs like me included - I think we can allow for a little human error here and there.

Mark,
I have to disagree. The wheels in the pictures that Eric posted about are definitely 6/7x16 which is a clear misrepresentation. In the ads I posted, there are glaring errors that will/can drive the prices up for uninformed buyers. Perhaps me using the word fraud in the title of this thread was overly accusatory. My point was to once again remind people of the dangers of buying used parts sight unseen, especially when there is little recourse after the fact. |

I think this demostrates that many sellers on Ebay are not knowledgable in their product. Perhaps that haven't taken the 2 year "Fuch appreciation" course taught here at Pelican. Joking aside, I would suspect a portion of the problem in ignorance. If any doubts arise, ask for a part number. Should leave no question as to the size and make.

I too saw the 6's and 7's posted as turbo wheels.
Here is my auction for fuchs : Does this seem like a good add? I want to be fair, while getting as much $$ as possible. What do you think? I see many adds with water soaked wheels , armour all etc.. that make things look better than they are. I stay away from these ones. I ask this because I just bought a "perfect" door panel for my MR2 from a guy in SF, CA that claimed to be in great condition with perfect vinyl which turned out to be cracked JUST LIKE WHAT I HAVE ( sorry ) $100 bucks wasted. I want to be fair to any potential buyer.Perfect ( and any condition) is certainly subjective on Ebay.

Reg,
As I see it, your ad is spot on honest. You've given the size, condition, S/N, and set the buyers expectation for shipping costs. I suspect you will get a good price and have a happy buyer. |

I think there is quite a bit of seller ignorance. I have been looking for Fuchs everywhere, even e-bay. I think you have to ask lots of questions. I always ask part numbers - a few of the fuchs wheels are not real - they are fakes. Sometimes the buyer doesn't even realize it.
BTW looking for a nice set of part# 951 362 117 00 8x16

another reason to always ask part numbers and wheel sizes stamped on back, if they cant comply dont waste your time. in the past i had sellers e-mail pictures of back stampings to be sure.

Whoops, Eric's example was 16" rims. My bad. I didn't see it first time out. Yes, they look like 6s and 7s. That's an awfully bad pic, though.
