Alternator Wiring Question
Simple question. I'm reinstalling the engine wiring harness after a long time and although I marked the terminals Red, Blue, and Brown, I want to confirm the brown (negative/ground) wiring. Here's an image of how I think it should go:

My concern is that does the large brown wire, to the crankcase, go somewhere else? The reason for that is that the wire seems to be too long, like it needs to go someplace else. However the wiring diagram would seem to indicate that it goes on the alternator. Just want to be sure before I button it up; labor-intensive to correct later! |
Looks correct. Case ground seems long as it goes under the shroud, not through it like the other wires.

Thanks. As I thought but wanted to confirm since later correction would be a PITA.

I always run the long case ground through the fan extension.
The pre SCs used a short ground to the case from the alternator through bolt. Bruce |
That brown wire (eventually) goes to ground via the engine-to-body strap and is typically found bolted to the crankcase via a nut and washer holding the halves together.
My useful suggestion is to never trust an old ground wire due to internal resistance that builds up over time. If the wire or strap is stiff, consider ponying up the $ for a new item. |
