Window Trim Replace? Tips?
 

Hey guys

So I picked up this '79SC a few days ago and there are a few little cosmetic things I am itching to rectify. The list is long but a few could be done quite quickly. Backstory: I have no previous experience, so looking to Pelican for any words-of-wisdom. :)

Intention is (surprise!!) to backdate, loose the wing, impact bumpers, rockers etc. but there is no rush and I'd like to enjoy the journey. That being said I'd like to move back to the chrome window trim and also through some louvred quarter windows into the mix.

So with no experience of ever having tackled this before would it be nuts to think I could go it alone on the window trim replacement and quarter window install?

And while I am here asking, can I switch out the deckled now and tackle the rear bumper later or do I need to know exactly which rear bumper style I am going for before switching out the decklid?

To polish the front windshield and rear window trim, you will need to remove both windows since it is integral to the sealing process. There are posts here how to do it, but you will need two people to make reinstallation possible.

When you say quarter windows, are you talking wing windows up front or rear quarter windows? There is an extensive thread on adding rear pop out windows, but that would undermine your plans on adding rear quarter plexi windows. Adding front wing windows will require new or used window assemblies.

There are threads here on everything you want to do, you just have to master advanced search after learning the correct terms for what you are looking for.

unless the paint's perfect throughout, I suspect a backdate is going to require a full repaint once done. Don't worry about the trim stuff until after you've removed all glass to do a proper repaint? Ditto for the rear deck/spolier.

That car looks pristine in your pic --why not enjoy it for what it is (and get to better understand what you have/really want) before you start dropping what will be big $$ (and many months) to hack it up?

Great advice - I actually fully intend to do that. I have the whole summer to enjoy (and save) for some Renos over the winter but was wondering what my itchy trigger fingers might get started on. ;) - thanks Darrin!! :)

I was thinking rear quarter plexis and pop-out front quarters. Yes - I've found quite a few threads on the process but few explain if it is a one man job or not. I absolutely wouldn't;t tackle the front and rear glass without help but wondered about making a move on the sides myself.
