1st 911 arrives today (Birth Year!!!)
My girlfriend is bored of hearing about it, most of my buddies think I am nuts and the only petrol-head in the family, my father (current ride: Morgan 3), lives in the UK. So, after an exhaustive search, I am relying on the awesome community here at Pelican to share my excitement in the (hopeful) arrival today of my very first 911.
She's a 1979 SC, black, all stock, no rust, passed PPI with flying colours! And check this out, my first 911 is also my birth year car which I happen think is frickin' cool as $%^!!! Really excited to share my journey with you all here and lean on as many of you as possible on a greasy slide down the rabbit hole! cheers! ![]() dK Last edited by thefaculty; 05-15-2018 at 08:59 AM.. |

That's awesome. Big port SC's are the best of the SC's. How many miles?

Congratulations! I've had my '79 for about two and a half years now as my daily and I absolutely love it.

Awesome Jon! This is exactly what I am hoping for. I have an overwhelming number of ideas/possibilities for this car but above it all I want to enjoy driving her while learning the ways around a 911! Thanks for reaching out mate!!

Congratulations and welcome aboard. I'm sure you'll have fun. I see a Crappy Tire sign in the pic so where are you located?
Mark.

Congrats man, you're stoked!
Do yourself a favor and drive it for a few months before tearing in to it doing "upgrades" ![]()

I'm the same age and also have an early SC. My friends didn't understand the Porsche obsession either so I had to get new friends!
Congrats on a killer SC and welcome to the forum. If you're in Toronto, Jay Lloyds is the local air-cooled authority in those parts. He runs a shop called Klassix. Good dude. |

Congrats - such cool cars - when you sit in it, and turn the key with your left hand and that air cooled flat 6 comes to life you'll know you are driving something special.

Welcome.
BTW, I bought my first 911 in 1978. And I still have it. ![]()

She does not have the affliction.
Got mine when I was 41. I literally pissed of neighbors when I would discuss getting one. "Just get it. I'm tired of listening to this broken record". There was a guy named Plecostumus that posted theory questions about buying a 3.2 for eight long years here. Never pulled the trigger. That's when a sweet one was $22k. An 89 Speedster was under $40. Good for you. Quote:
There are plenty of non performance upgrades. The metal door straps are a weak point. Door open a little, big gust of wind and the door strap will break away and the door will try to fold over onto the front fender. Your car is faster than you (assuming) or many of us here can drive now. Down the road, I would put money into tightening the tired (if so) suspension and good rubber. Much larger fun factor for the dollar then a $2,500 exhaust system.

This is a good idea for sure. It's not an easy car to "upgrade".
